GW's new Naming scheme

Recommended Posts

I disagree about the pronunciation of the double-I, though. Julii is "jule-ee-eye", for instance, not "jule-ee-ee".

So how do we say Pompeii tongue.png?

I do agree on Skitarii and the "-ee-eye" pronunciation. I didn't sit through Greek and Latin classes for nothing. Well, I guess I did, really...sad.png

I took four years of Latin from 3 different teachers and never heard "ee-eye" as the nominative declension plural of any noun of any gender. The only organization that still actually speaks Latin is the Roman Catholic Church, and I don't seem to remember it done that way there, either. Scientific Latin does not adhere to traditional pronunciation in any case.

I say "toh-may-to", You say "toh-mah-to". ;)

I've done a fair bit of liking but little commenting. Basically I agree with Oilis - translation changes over time and even contemporary dialects differ. Consider how Ecclesiastical Latin differs from scientific Latin let alone classical Latin. Or consider different English dialects. Even Canadians and Americans spell things differently. So I'd not get hung up on the dog-Latin pronunciation.

I also totally fine with the naming and star soldiers makes total sense to me. I can't think of any cheesy names in real world to compare but I know they are out there.
