Calth - Ultramarines/Word Bearers log

Fire Golem

Recommended Posts

So while waiting for my FW stuff to come I thought I'd start a bit of a log for my Ultramarines and Word Bearers forces (seems fitting to do them both together). My Ultramarines will probably actually be set on Calth, I'm not so sure about my WB yet, they might be less specific. I will try and work on some fluff for them too.

Using some of my bits and a former SoH, I mocked up a Chaplain for my WB. It's only blu tac holding it together atm (need to buy more superglue):

I don't know if something looks vaguely off? I'm not sure if it's just that most of the armour is very plain next to the plastic chaos stuff, but I don't know what to do about that, don't feel overly confident sculpting anything on the armour... Also, is it a bit too chaosy? Any feedback appreciated :)

Anyway, just bored waiting for my stuff so I thought I'd start something. Cheers for reading.

I think that works well as a Calth era Chaplain or maybe even a Diabolist but you are right about something being off - the bottom half of the mini looks very bare compared to the top. Maybe you could add some purity seals on him somewhere or try carve up some Chaos minis and attach something to the shin area?

I found some bits for the lower half, and personally I quite like how it looks:

The pictures aren't great, sorry. The loincloth is from a Dark Eldar, as is the knife; I thought it worked okay as like a ritual knife (probably a bit nice to be an athame though), and I thought the cylinder things next to the knife could work as those warp flask things? The book is from the fine cast Chaos Sorceror. The actual legs are still quite plain, but I think the accessors help 'bling it up' a little?

He looks like he is about to give someone a bro hug, try to make the plasma pistol arm a bit more "relaxed" that will make his pose more natural and a little less... bro-huggy

Actually, fire golem, come to think of it now that AO108 has posted - if you can align the eyes so they look down the haft and head of the mace, it'll look like he's pointing at something. So, just a little twist of his head more to the right...

Sorry to be a pita. laugh.png

Haha, thanks guys. I swapped out the arm, I couldn't find a pose for the pistol that looked very natural (and unbrohuggy) with the straight one:

I'll look at turning the head a little too. The model was mostly built before, and was just holding a bolter, which is why it doesn't quite line up, and why the last arm was straight.

I couldn't get the head off without damaging something so I brought the mace in a little:

It's better I think? This is probably the most photographed mediocre model ever now! :p

Thanks AO108 :) hopefully won't be long! Probably need to buy the right paints first haha.

Oh there's a couple of bits that need smoothing over too, I'll have to do that this weekend, I don't have my greenstuff on me

I don't have one, but I do want one at some point. Even just for getting basecoats down quicker, might be a bit more motivated to paint then. And the Word Bearers red and Gal Vorbak red look pretty spot on from the photo so they'll definitely make life easier!
