Prot
Hey Guys, I've played a lot of games recently, and just haven't had time to do proper batreps lately. My apologies for that but I am playing probably more than I should, which is cutting into my time for 'real life' stuff! lol I need to keep this short as I have a few batreps worthy of minor reporting! First off we have an Astra Game: Maelstrom 1850. My list is actually composed from our discussions in my thread 'getting the most out of Centurions the Ultra-way'. Or something like that.... Basically (off the top of my head): - Tigurius (Biomancy) - Chapter Master, Termie armour, Burning Blade, Primarch's Wrath. Those two guys go with: - 3 Grav centurions, in a Landraider Redeemer with Chronos! (yea I had to try him again.) - 2 x Stormtalons, one with Skyhammer, one with Las. - 1 x 5 man Melta - pod squad - 1x 6 man Missile squad in a Las/plas Razorback. - Thunderfire Cannon. - 5 x Assault Terminators. Yea these guys are painted, they're getting played!!! 3 x hammer/shield, 2 x Claws. The Astra List: - Very different for this guy. He was trying something new which threw me off balance for a bit: - 5 flyers! 2 x Valkyrie (had his HQ, lots of Vets with special weapons) - The other 3 were Vendetta Gunships. Lots of stuff with AV12.... - 2 x Chimera's - oddly enough... I don't think he had any tanks now that I think of it! Wow... usually I'm staring down all kinds of AV14. - I think he had 2 maybe 3 of the allied deep striker guys with 'volley guns' and specials (in 5 man squads). We get 6 Objective cards. I roll Biomancy, get nothing of value for the game... a few buffs for Tigurius which will prove useless against Astra. I get first turn. I had a 'grey' / unpainted Razorkback deployed, and actually reminded him it was there and let him re-deploy or I was going to pelt his Chimera for an 'easy?' first blood.... +++ My first turn. You can barely make out my proxy Thunderfire dude in the lower left corner. My Missile squad holds an objective, the Razorback is actually part 'blue'.... and the landraider takes mid ground while the Melta squad jumps in.... +Early Game+ - I do get first blood. As usual in these pictures you will hardly see my opponent as they all cower from the great Ultramarines! But hiding in corners just makes you die alone I always say.... The Melta squad pops a Chimera off camera. First Blood. I get a center marker for another point. - The Game is fairly slow in the early going. I get that squad out, for first Blood, but they are somewhat stranded now. The Cents stay put and wait for the Astra reinforcements.... - Astra gets a few remaining guys from chimera 1 to take shots at the marines... 2 die. The other chimera unloads a Commissar into the building (5+ cover) and he gets an objective. He's hiding pretty well here.... I can't flush him out without committing too many guys. +MID GAME+ - His Flyers come in! Then my Flyers come in! It's an insane air show: +Can I live through this?+ - My Termies came in too early, but I desperately needed points. He was doing well for objectives, and I had to go deep into his zone. Unfortunately his Flyers came out, dropped his HQ and a ton of Vets with Plasma/Melta! Crazy stuff... somehow I weather the storm! His shots aren't very good, and I save most of them with positioning of Storm Shields.... very lucky though! - My Stormtalons race in but are basically just causing him to Jink which is good enough! That's a lot of firepower he has in the skies. + The cowardly Astra hide within this refinery using the Objective as cover with a bonus +1 to cover here they are getting a 4+. - The Centurions and HQ have to get out, and start clearing garbage to grab an objective. - After I disembark, a melta squad drops from the skies, and manages to only put 1 hullpoint on the landraider! Wow... lucky. Ironically Chronos would repair it on my turn! (IWND). - With Orbital Bombardment, The Primarch's Wrath, 3 centurions and whatever else I can throw, the Astra lose maybe 3-4 guys here.... what I would have done for Divination right about now instead of "Biomancy".... never again. +END GAME+ - It turns out this spot would be huge. I can't win without this spot as it represents too many points. I assault him with marines here, he wins, I break... ugh (Commissar is keeping it all together). - I can't get the HQ there in time. My Stormtalon goes into hover, and floats over the objective, but I have to clear it out.... again, EVERYTHING I own shoots at those Astra... including the Thunderfire and it finally clears them out.... I get the point and the win with that objective. - I don't think my opponent liked his list. I had some great luck, but my cards were largely unlucky. He had no real presence on the board until turn 2-3 because of heavy reserves. If I had better cards, with board control, that would have been huge. - Lessons Learned: No more Biomancy for me. I missed Prescience so much this game but I wanted to try Bio for a change. - I had to play this list on this table again vs an ork guy, but swapped out the Chapter Master's gear back to my favorites, and put Tigurius back on Divination. Captain Idaho
I think Biomancy works best with an AP2 destruction deepstrike squad rather than alongside a unit like Centurions. You get the rerolls from Tigurius' Warlord Trait mind. You get the rerolls from Tigurius' Warlord Trait mind. Yup, I did all the re-rolls. Unfortunately even Tigurius cannot compensate for my suckiness. :) Oh you mean Warlord trait...? I don't think that's my cup of tea anymore (I used to use it all the time). I use the Chapter master so I can roll twice on Strategic tables. It's a good idea if you don't want to use Divination, but the squad did get chewed up a bit in this one. Survival was an issue, but against a flyer/astra army, I have to admit ,the Cents were never really a factor.... Chronos was fun though. Not quite enough to keep him in the list, but fun!
