Just got my first 30k army knowing very little about it and based the army list on the Stone Gauntlet and models I liked.

Playing my first 3000 point game next week and would appreciate any hints or tips on wargear as the models are everything I currently own! Its about 2900 as it stands so room to tweak wargear and tactics.

As a templar player It makes me happy to see so many land raiders out. So looking at the list, I like it. Just some thoughts. I would take out the power fists in the squad and keep maybe 2-3 and replace the rest with power axes. I would take the plasma pistol out as it's mostly filler and expensive. I would make the one contemptor with lascannons a Mortis for anti air, which you pack in the list. On the legion champ I would try to get rid of the charnable saber and replace with something like a power sword. I'm not sure what special weapon to put in the breacher squad but I think a melta gun might be wasted because most vehicles have armored ceramtie. Maybe a charger? I would take off the serpenta on the champion as well. On the breacher squads maybe add melta bombs to the squad so they can deal with anti armor.

What army will you being playing against? Good luck! Hope to see a battle report.

Have you used the Glaive in many battles?  I was torn whether to order one or not.  My game store has a loose FW policy, and I can imagine that thing utterly roasting some Tyranids, i mean *cough* Megarachnids *cough*.  I'm not sold on Siege Breacher marines.

Breachers are very much a Defensive Units. You dont play with them Forward, at all. Use their Invulnerable Saves vs Ap3 and FNP from any attached Apothecaries to your benefit alongside Defensive Grenades Neutering any Charge Bonuses. Their Pricey but now that we understand their complete package more, they arent that over costed.

The Glaive is a Monster that will destroy pretty much anything you point it at; especially if its Blobs or Mechanical. S8 Ap2 Deflagrate with that Heavy Beam is Nasty. Not to mention Haywire.

The only big problem I see in your list is too many Small, Expensive Units.

2 10 man Breachers I can forgive, but pumping them up in numbers can only be a good thing.

1 5 Man Flamer Support Squad wont do Jack for you. Too Few Marines and Flamers arent as good as their Other Weapon Options such as Plasma Guns or Volkites.

Dreads are fine though as are 2 Las Rapiers.

a Total of 35 Bodies and 3 Tanks at 3k Is rather Low, imo. I'd rather scrap the Flamer Squad and the Legion Champion (who literally fills the same role as a Preator only not as good) for more Bodies in your Squads and More, better upgrades.

Case and Point, the Plasma Pistol on your Templar Squad. They're a CC unit, if you shoot at what you're going to charge and kill something, that might be all that stands between a successful charge or not; and for the points, you could get a Solarite Power Gauntlet on the Champion which is a MC, Ap1 Power Fist without Specialist Weapon.

And since you fit the Minimum Requirements for it, I'd also strongly consider the Stone Gauntlet RoW for T5 Breacher Marines.

Oh, and you'll want vexillas on anything that can take one since we dont have "And They Shall Know No Fear". Morale is Important now and re-rolling failed morale is great.

Cheers for all this.

The reason the army is small units wise was it is was a commission, initially for using it at 2500 points. That's why there is a lot of wargear and upgrades at the moment. Needed a 3rd troops choice to allow 3 elites due to the stone gauntlet and liked the flamer squad so more taste rather than competitive edge for them.

Next steps I think are a couple of tactical squads and a sicarian and maybe expand the breacher squads.
