Blood strands? not sure what else to call them

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Looking for help, any tuts out there or products that create that 'sticky' blood affect between lets say lighting claws, or teeth that looks like saliva strands, but blood.

Couldn't find anything on here and google doesn't seem to like my search fu very much.

any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply EdT, was looking for something fairly thin though. Will be applying the effect to my warp talons claws, I've used the thread method before but need something thinner.

Bit like this, while I see thread?, there are some strands that are real thin.

I've got a pot of Tamiya clear red, I've never used it before. Going to test and see if this has a point in the drying process where it could be managed to create strands.

ahhhhhhhhh. random google search and bingo!

I know several people here use hairs as the base, although I cant think of any exact examples at the moment.  As in actual head hair hairs.  Perhaps a quick look through any Chaos or specifically Khorne relates WIP threads might turn up an answer.

I've used eyebrow hairs for blood gushing from severed limbs (as they have a nice curve).

Hold one end of the hair in tweezers and run some superglue along the length of the hair. It'll form beads. Repeat as necessary to increase the number and size of the beads.

I then paint it with Tamiya Clear Red mixed with Nuln Oil.

The Kommando was an earlier piece. The more you practice, the better you can do the effect.

Hair would work really well… You may  consider using hair (white, blonde, gray if you have a choice) or even clear fishing line cut to length.  I've tried with some decent results (sorry, no pics at the moment) using clear 5 min epoxy mixed with a tiny bit of Tamiya Clear Red & Clear Smoke mixture. Make certain to get the Red/Smoke mix where you want for a blood-red/brown, THEN mix the epoxy and add the Red/Smoke mix to it. As the epoxy is starting to dry, you can use a toothpick to "pull" drip strands away from it… You have to pay attention as it is setting up though.

Looking at the pictures in the link it looks like he was using tooth floss the non waxed kind.

I remember an old White Dwarf with a Chaos Warrior army on display. The guy used cheap glue to get a rabid saliva effect on his hounds. Applied it around the mouth and left it to dry slightly before teasing it out in strands and super gluing it to the other end. Mixing that with tamiya clear would also work for blood.

Thanks again, those links are great. Found the evo stik today in town but it was a tube, so probably gel like. Found the UHU on amazon.

Does the UHU dry hard hard, how durable is it? not talking about extreme punishment but standing up to general game play and transportation.

Two contenders then, UHU or evo stik...... this is not good for my procrastination abilities.

I never used this on gaming miniatures.

But if you are carefull with transportation and normal game play should not harm the strings, but i realy cant say.

But if you order UHU be aware to order the black one like on the pictures not the green one.

The green one is water based and wont work for strings.
