So i've recently become disillusioned with the space wolves I just cannot get into them I love the fluff but the army is not for me... So it is time to return to the boys in red, I have wanted to do a fast mech list and was wondering what people would recommend I will have 3 land raiders and a storm aven plus whatever I can scrounge from bits.. where should I start to build a mech force beyond the obvious troops and HQ choice Baal preds are a must was thinking something akin to razor spam. ifpeople want to toss out ideas I'm all ears. thanks in advance

I guess what it depends on what you want to do. If you're looking to go MSU, then fast rhinos are good. Razorspam is really tough in this edition.

Personally, I love fast vindicators. Fast preds with lascannon sponsons are also nice as they can move 6" and still fire all their weapons.

What makes razorspam harder to pull off that rhinos I would think more guns is better?

Assault Marines cannot get Razorbacks as dedicated transports. Tacticals don't get them for free, but 5 tactical marines with heavy flamer and combi-flamer in a razorback shouldn't be so bad. Unfortunately Razorbacks do not have fire points.

Yeah, if you're just after mobile gun platforms, you're paying nearly 400 points for 6 heavy bolters....not so hot.

For instance, for 10 less points than those six empty razorbacks, you could get the following:

5x assault marines w/ 1x melta in a fast rhino

5x assault marines w/ 1x melta in a fast rhino

5x assault marines w/ 1x melta in a fast rhino

5x assault marines w/ 1x melta in a fast rhino

Or, for 30 points less than those six empty razorbacks, you could get six speeders, each with two heavy bolters for a total of twelve heavy bolters on more mobile jinkable platforms.

Razorbacks are fun. But they are not a very competitive option in the current codex.

If you're interested in meching I'd say 3 things.

First, mech sure your mech has anti mech, nothing worse as a SM player who's got a mech list going up against, say, AM or Tau or Eldar when they're meching, because WE. WILL. LOSE. For this I would advise balance, don't rely on the mech to anti mech, take some Meltacide squads, or even some backfield devs and an aegis etc etc.

Second, choose your mech carefully, razors are good, I find autolas preds to be good, vindis are gold (when fast), whirlwinds are as useful as a chocolate teapot, stormravens (whilst not strictly mech) have won me games time and time again by just being irritating to the opponent). Also if you can go forgeworld DO SO, the Sicaran is absolutely amazing partiually due to its weaponry, partially due to it being fast, and partially because it makes opponents nervous and likely to mess up, whrilwind scorpius and demios vindicator destroyer are good too (anti marine and serious anti mech respectively).

Third, you may wanna wait to see if these rumours of squadroning come to fruition, if they do (and if they apply to BA), squads of fast tanks could become incredibly deadly (a personal dream of mine is triple vindi, I own 3, now I just need to be able to use them) :)

I'm pretty sure there is a triple vindicator formation in a forgeworld book already. It might be Apocalypse only though.

I still have very good success with razor lists- i have between two and three razor units- so i wouldnt say its a spam list.

180 points for an Infernus, a heavy flamer and a twin-plas/las (best imho) razor is good good.

I really, really saw benefit in the special pistols, be they plas, grav or infernus and the heavy flamer is gold.  Added to that, 85 points is pricey, but move 12"  and fire 2 is good.

Have 1 or 2 AV13 to tank (sorry) for the lower armour razors.  I would avoid raiders personally, but i realise its a personal thing.

You will hear this echoed constantly on the boards here, but if you are with a FW friendly group (as they all should be by now!!!!) then invest in a sicaran -without, without a doubt. Its a great starting point.

A raven is also exceptional.

There's a LOT you can do with BA, and they do work really well in a combined arms (not the detachment!) type of way - ie: synergy of forces).

Pod support of either Furiosos or "Melta-cide" squads are great too.

Fi have run a mech list. I think it is quite powerful - but you need to use it well.

The Baal strike force allows 6 fast attack. Spend these on your choice of razors (las/plas or assault cannons) and assault squads in rhinos. 2 meltas for the assault squad because they can shoot out f the hatch.

Troops choice is a 5 man tac squad with heavy flamer and combo flamer in rhino.

id recommend the storm wing formation for the 2 talons.

If you don't mind being a little cheesy, look to inquisition for allies. 3 henchmen with plasma guns is something like 48 points. Put that in your razors. Also a chimera with 3 plasma cannon servitors and an inquisitor in it.

Choose between whatever av13 tanks you like. I find the Baal too expensive compared to a Dakka pred, and you can take assault cannon razors. I take mostly lascannon preds, maybe a vindi, as they have performed best for me,

Some kind of counter-assault force is handy. But raiders are too expensive for vehicles with such small output and still vulnerable to one-shot kills.
