SyNidus
I'm wondering, I currently run 2 librarians and Draigo. Loving it for sure. Although, I'm wondering if I should try running a librarian and grandmaster instead, using the extra points to buy something else. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts about them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308100-grandmaster/ Share on other sites
jeffersonian000
I never though of a GM as a points saver. Unless you are dropping both Librarians, one Libby and Draigo. Reclusiarch Darius
Grand Master is basically if you need a combat hero as well as a support. He's not the most efficient choice, but he has a lot of killing power and unlike a DK he can hide inside Terminator squads. Prot
I find he increases the shooty aspect, but otherwise I honestly think he's over priced. I'm addicted to 3 Warp Level psykers and he isn't it.... I don't even find I need his CC abilties that much, but if I'm rolling Divination? He's an easy way to add a 3rd Psycannon (or 2nd one if you don't want 10 termies). Otherwise though he's well over 200 pts vanilla. The 3 WL Libby is just such a better bargain to me. But again, I'm addicted to the Psychic phase. It's my 40K crack. That being said, I've been experimenting with Stern lately. I'm tired of NOT getting Sanc, and he's right around the same points, granted with one less attack but his funky re-roll and Sanctuary guarantee he's my choice right now. Reclusiarch Darius
Yeah definitely no question, the Grand Master is kinda overpriced. The proliferation of the D thanks to new Eldar makes me wince. He also gets squished by Imperial Knights and other Lord of War annoyances far too easily. In a truly competitive list, it's just cheaper and easier to take a Terminator squad in his place. Prot
Actually I never thought of him like that. That's a good point. He's a hair away from being a well equipped Terminator squad! Reclusiarch Darius
Well by way of comparison; Grand Master w/hammer+psycannon (215 points) versus Justicar w/sword, Terminator w/sword+psycannon, Terminator w/hammer, 2x Terminators w/swords (195 points) Grand Master has 3 wounds, a 4+ invul instead of a 5+, has 5 hammer attacks on the charge, and shoots at BS5 Terminators can survive Destroyer and ID hits better, only have 3 hammer attacks on the charge at WS4, and shoot 8x bolter shots and the psycannon but only at BS4 So in terms of raw combat effectiveness, the Terminators are a better buy. However, the Grand Master also has Mastery 2 and Divination access. Still, pricey. Zembar
Don't forget that the termies have hammerhand and ML1 as well, so you only lose one charge and you still get a useful abiility. Reclusiarch Darius
That's true, although of course in practical terms, your Grand Master will always be attached to Terminators anyway.
