Chimera turret options

SW1

Recommended Posts

I don't believe that autocannons are an option anymore. They are in the Armored Battle Group, however that's a FW list. As far as I know, the only options are Multilaser, Heavy Bolter, or Heavy Flamer. I even went back into the 2008 5th ed Codex, and came up empty. It's either a Forgeworld thing, or from a much earlier Codex.

Yeah ... I'm trying to locate the FW book it was in. There was mention of it in one of the FW downloads to update the old FW books. Gonna have another look.

Edit: They still sell the model ...

And the rules are in: Imperial Armour Volume One 2nd Edition

I made mine using some 3 and 4 mm plasticard rods and the multilaser.it doesn't look as beefy as the forgeworld version, or the exterminators autocannons, but fits more in line with the infantry autocannon, which i prefer more.

i think this is the cheapest option as well

Really nice plasticard work there, Hendrik. The Autocannon looks more truescale and IMO I really like that look. Personally I went with PuppetsWar parts for the Autocannon mount, however, as it comes with a turret that sets my Chimeras apart.

As far as playing the Autocannon rules, I personally use the cost of the upgrade with the new Chimera cost. IA1:2E has the Chimera running at 10pts cheaper than it is now, so even with the Autocannon upgrade it runs 5pts cheaper than a standard Codex: AM Chimera if you were to use the IA rules.

The Autocannon gives the Chimera some decent teeth for light Anti-Tank. Tbh the inconsistent points cost are a bit weird, though. A Heavy Bolter or Autocannon are priced the same for a Heavy Weapons Team, but for a Chimera the Autocannon has a tax. Perhaps it's the mobility to flank armour. Perhaps it's just an oversight.

as far as i'm aware one of the krieg lists allows it, and the imperial armour volume one second edition has it as an option for the chimera, and although it's cost is lower, my opponents agree that i could use the upgrade option for the current chimera as well, given that i've already modeled it and it's not game breaking
