SW1
I know chimeras can have other options to the ones listed in the codex. Where are these found rules wise and what other weapons are available? I'm thinking autocannons but struggling to locate the book the options in. Ulrik_Ironfist
I don't believe that autocannons are an option anymore. They are in the Armored Battle Group, however that's a FW list. As far as I know, the only options are Multilaser, Heavy Bolter, or Heavy Flamer. I even went back into the 2008 5th ed Codex, and came up empty. It's either a Forgeworld thing, or from a much earlier Codex. Inso
It was in one of the early Imperial Armour books from Forge World (It may even have been the first one). It had options for autocannon and the command and scout variants of Chimera. WarriorFish
Autocannons are not in the codex - you will need to look at FW as mentioned. Codex has multilaser, heavy flamer and heavy bolter only. SW1
Yeah ... I'm trying to locate the FW book it was in. There was mention of it in one of the FW downloads to update the old FW books. Gonna have another look. Edit: They still sell the model ... http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Astra_Militarum_Tanks/CHIMERA_AUTOCANNON_TURRET.html And the rules are in: Imperial Armour Volume One 2nd Edition Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4056848 Share on other sites
librisrouge
Imperial Armor Volume One, Second Edition has rules for TL Heavy Bolters and Autocannons but the overall vehicle rules are an edition behind now. I'd ask your local group if you can keep the same upgrade cost but use them for the new rules. WarriorFish
Keep in mind the turret is designed for the old Chimera though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4057167 Share on other sites
SW1
Rule of cool and if people don't like them they can count as multi lasers? I'll probably convert up a single one and then cast it up. Thinking maybe using an old school hell hound as a base? WarriorFish
The old Hellhound is the old Chimera after all! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4057220 Share on other sites
Stofficus
I have two of the autocannon turrets - they give you a turret ring to make it fit into the modern Chimera kit, so conversion isn't much of a concern. elmo
You can go down the magnetisation route with the new kit. I used a magnetised mantlet with the autocannon barrel from the heavy weapon team and can now swap between weapons as required. Krikey
The autocannon turret is also still necessary for the storm chimera -- the DKoK grenadier dedicated transport in the DKoK Assault Regiment Brigade army list (IA12). ~K Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4058049 Share on other sites
hendrik
I made mine using some 3 and 4 mm plasticard rods and the multilaser.it doesn't look as beefy as the forgeworld version, or the exterminators autocannons, but fits more in line with the infantry autocannon, which i prefer more. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/20150526_095127_zps16qszjhr.jpg i think this is the cheapest option as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4058580 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
That looks good hendrik, especially with the spaced armour plates :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4058608 Share on other sites
CoffeeGrunt
Really nice plasticard work there, Hendrik. The Autocannon looks more truescale and IMO I really like that look. Personally I went with PuppetsWar parts for the Autocannon mount, however, as it comes with a turret that sets my Chimeras apart. As far as playing the Autocannon rules, I personally use the cost of the upgrade with the new Chimera cost. IA1:2E has the Chimera running at 10pts cheaper than it is now, so even with the Autocannon upgrade it runs 5pts cheaper than a standard Codex: AM Chimera if you were to use the IA rules. The Autocannon gives the Chimera some decent teeth for light Anti-Tank. Tbh the inconsistent points cost are a bit weird, though. A Heavy Bolter or Autocannon are priced the same for a Heavy Weapons Team, but for a Chimera the Autocannon has a tax. Perhaps it's the mobility to flank armour. Perhaps it's just an oversight. Ulrik_Ironfist
Do you have to run from a specific list in order to take the autocannon? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4058994 Share on other sites
hendrik
as far as i'm aware one of the krieg lists allows it, and the imperial armour volume one second edition has it as an option for the chimera, and although it's cost is lower, my opponents agree that i could use the upgrade option for the current chimera as well, given that i've already modeled it and it's not game breaking Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308102-chimera-turret-options/#findComment-4059917 Share on other sites
