Starting Imperial Fists

Hey all, I'm thinking about putting together a small amount of imperial fists. Are there any other books that I'd need to get apart from Extermination to have the full rules?

The Two Small Books: Legions Astartes: Crusade Army List and Legions Astartes: Istvaan Campaign Legions.

Welcome to the Black and Yellow Brotherhood \o/

Thanks :) follow up question, I'm gonna put in an order with Forgeworld and I wanna hit the £250 mark to get the free shipping. With the 3 books, Alexis Polux and a couple of paints I'm at about £160 so have around £90 to spend. What would people recommend I get with the remaining budget?

Depends, whats your current collection so far / what can you use for 30k?

'cuz 90 isn't much; maybe 2 Contemptors with Arms. I would say Templar Brethren or Phalanx Warders but they come up to 11 Pounds per marine and Minimum squad sizes are 5 and 10 respectively.

With Alexis, I'd be looking at breachers - I'd say, try to plan out the core of your list and get that.  A contemptor, deredeo, tacticals or breachers (with alexis) are good choices, but plan ahead and save money by figuring out the core army list.

This.

I made the mistake of buying a ton of stuff with no idea of how the Legion worked. thinking I was smart getting ahead of the rules, wish I would have waited

Thanks guys, think I'm going to go with some breachers to start with, really liking the models and they should give me something to do while I read through the books and decide what else I want.

Just remember, you need 10 Breachers per squad for minimum size!

I've gotten myself tac-full as well and am working on finishing my list to be fluffy, fun and full of arse kicking dudes in yellow n black- maybe get yourself 2 books, Alexis, 10 breachers, the sexy fists contemptor, an eddy and something with big AT to start :)

I don't think you need the 3 books, just the two Crusade books will do. Extermination is nice but expensive unless you really want the fluff. If you must have it, only buy the general Crusade Army list book for all the standard units and rules.

Get yourself the models you like, Sigismund is brilliant and has great rules. Get yourself a Sicaran tank!

Edit: just noticed you've already made a purchase :-P lol

Thanks everyone, ended up getting the 3 books, Pollux, 10 breachers and the contemptor dread body. Should give me enough to paint while I decide what I want to get next.

Do you have your paint scheme (yellow recipe) down yet?

I am willing to pass on some trade secrets....

will you be airbrushing or brush painting it makes a difference I so far have been really happy with how my brush painting yellow turned out (I think I only sacrificed 3 old 40k tac marines to arrive at it lol)

but I have just purchased a new air brush and am almost to scared to use it. I will say once you get you're yellow down pat it is very rewarding it's an intricate colour to master but the subtleties you can play with when it comes to warmth and depth make it especially rewarding.

guys like slip and P warder have some really good advice about rules and paint and they both are very active in this forum so you'll always be well supported with questions while biulding you VII legion and I for sure would give you any advice my meager paint skills and limited 30k knowledge can provide

and also welcome to the most glorious of legions

I'm in a similar position, in that I bought an airbrush a few months ago but haven't got around to using it yet. I was thinking about using it for anything larger than a marine and then doing marines by brush. Not sure if this would make the colours look to different though?

Thanks for the advice so far :)
