Battle Captin Torodin
Has anyone had particular success painting coloured metallic and if so what technique did they use? thanks very much Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/ Share on other sites
Hyuzanriu
I have personally not tried it myself, but google Viva Metallica. It is a method that creates a metallic appearance by using a silver base coat and washes. I hear every not and again about companies that produce colored metallics, though I do not know any brands off the top of my head. Bung
What particular color are you looking for? There are a few possibilities: First would be paint it with some sort of steel metal color and use washes or something like Tamiya Clear colors. Second would be going to mix the color you want with Metal Medium from Vallejo, that would give the color the metalic shine. Third would be looking out for some colored metalics. Vallejo does a Gunmetal Blue. But you can find a few in the Scalecolor Metal paint sets atm they are not selling their metallics seperated. http://www.scale75.com/image/cache/data/producto/SCALECOLOR/ALCHEMY%20STEEL/steel_scale75_02-400x520.jpg http://www.scale75.com/image/cache/data/producto/SCALECOLOR/ALCHEMY%20GOLD/steel_scale75_02-400x520.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/#findComment-4057853 Share on other sites
Battle Captin Torodin
Thanks for the feedback guys. There's no specific colour at the moment I just wondered how people approach this sort of thing. Just have to do some experimenting's Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/#findComment-4058056 Share on other sites
Razblood
Coat D'Arms do the old Citadel coloured metallics I believe. You can also shade and glaze white metals (silver, chaimail, etc.) with washes/inks or mix inks directly into white metals. EdT
FWIW I find the best way to do it is to do a metallic silver base coat and then put a coat of ink on top. Works for every colour apart from red and is really nice and vibrant, far more so than mixing paints in my view. Here's a WIP Salamander showing how it 'pops'. Battle Captin Torodin
Thanks for the WIP pic, does look good. I wonder why it doesn't work with red very well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/#findComment-4058641 Share on other sites
EdT
For whatever reason, if you do a red ink on a silver metallic base, you end up with pink. After some experimentation, I found that runelord brass works well as an alternative though; I did this Thousand Son that way. Battle Captin Torodin
I wonder what would happen if you did a sepia or ratskin wash, and then a red wash.... Then a red "glaze".....? Might have to bust out the test minis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/#findComment-4058658 Share on other sites
Cloud Runner
Try using vallejo air colour steel and then using tamiya clear colours over the top. I tried that for an iron man theme on dreadball minis and it worked nice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308145-coloured-metallics/#findComment-4072208 Share on other sites
