Looking for a good dark blue (navy) spray for CFs

Recommended Posts

I picked up a can of Krylon paint in an Oxford Blue color to use as the base layer for my guys. I think it would work well for CFs, but my concern would be using paint from a bottle on top of it and the two shades not matching. In my case, not much of the blue base will be seen, where yours will be.

I would just use the Krylon to give a base and from there highlight with a lighter Citadel Blue potted paint like Altdorf Guard blue.

Thanks for the tip tho. Best info I've had on a good dark blue primer/base for Crimson Fists.

I picked that up and it ended up being more of a blue-gray?!?!?  .... I'm actually taking it back to Michaels tonight. :(

I'm not sure why it came out blue-grey for you. Here's the test figure I used:

It's a satin finish, so it's showing up brighter than it really is in the image due to reflecting more light.

I picked up two cans of Montana Gold "Blue Note" spray which is a dark navy blue at a local art supply store. I'm hoping this will end my quest. if not its back to Krylon Oxford Blue hoping the next can won't be a dud or fluke?

You might also look into Tamiya Dark Blue (TS-55). I used it for some Night Lords and it was quite nice. Super dark blue. Kind of a midnight shade.

I saw that. There is a local hobby model shop that has nearly all the Tamiya in stock. That will also be a back-up plan in case the Montana Gold Blue Note spray doesn't work. Thanks.

The Montana Blue Note was another failure. While the color was good it left some weird texture on it.

Ok so next move is all or nothing. Going to pick up the Tamya TS-55 AND another can of Krylon Oxford Blue and then let the battle begin!

Picked up another can of Krylon Oxford Blue Satin paint+primer. Turned out a gray-blue ... but being the nit I am sometimes, I checked my iPhone and we are at 79% humidity. Duh.

Army Painter, sadly, doesn't have a dark blue. I checked before going with Tamiya.

Isn't that Tamiya a gloss?

I'm not sure if it's a gloss. It is a bit shiny...

I sold the Night Lords and don't have any pictures, but I do think I have a few pieces that I did a sample test on while I was deciding which dark blue to use (just like you). I will see if I can find those tonight.

Thanks :) ... possible lifesaver here.
