Alpha Legion, Colorblind?

Onehip

Recommended Posts

So I decided to take my top three armies (DG, IF, & AL) and paint them up to see what I like best.

If I'm going to build an army, that costs an arm & a leg, I better enjoy it.

The problem is with AL I already have another army, for another system, that is using the current color scheme.

But, it seems that they were all over the place with colors.

" the Alpha Legion has been witnessed in liveries in pale grey, gleaming steel, veridian, dull bronze, sable, indigo, amaranth and azure blue -- both in main and combination."

So do you guys feel it even matters what color you paint them?

The usual colours I've seen people depict them have generally been limited to green and/or blue (metallic or otherwise). This generally tends to be the accepted (and officially depicted) colour scheme. Personally, given the variety and nature of the Legion, they are almost a blank canvas. If I had an Alpha Legion force to paint, I might be tempted to use a similar colour scheme to that on the cover art for Legion. Or just go with the flow and do metallic blue/green... :P

I personally intend on using a variety of the aformentioned schemes. simply put, I think the XXth is  probably the best for avoiding hobby burnout(paint wise anyways)

such as;

my leadership will probably have that gorgeous metallic blue/green

veterans will go with indigo

assaulty guys, bronze....

etc

etc.

I like the idea of a bronze or stealthed out black/grey styled force. The bronze is greek esque and could even link them to the minotaurs (hey they are mysterious, maybe theyre actually AL? They are great at killing non chaos marines ;P) The stealthed out grey would look great for a rapid attack force aswell, very stealthy.

I am happy to have found this topic, cause I will be building an AL army and still can't decide how to paint them, so I could start stocking up some paints lol

Anyway, I think I will have mine painted mostly canonical to the colours in the book 3, but of course with some variety. I don't want to go too dark on them, but also not too bright either. Will try to find the golden middle. As for trims, i prefer silver/steel.

It's definitely hard to find anything solid, though guess that mirrors their fluff.

I've seen art where they are purple, blue, and now the metallic blue/green.

Thinking about a dark armor with green highlights (dark eldar esc.)

Felt that was still in the scheme plus, fit their covert fighting style, and still reptilian for scales
