Know No Fear! Apologist's Ultramarines showcase

Set my Ultramarines up for a few shots last night. I was slightly startled to see how many there are now, and there's a few missing from these shots. These show all the 'completed' ones – though I'm planning to rebase them all with bicarbonate of soda snow (as shown on a few). I'll doubtless feel the need to repaint the iconography at some point, too.

I hope it's okay to show off the piccies here. Since they're Heresy-era, I wasn't sure whether this subforum or the Hall of Honour was more appropriate.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

More to come soon. I'd love to hear what you think smile.png

awesome ultras man man are the gold shouldered fellas at the back a little trues a led or is it just the bulked up pauldrons throwing my eye off.

would love to see a close up of what I assume is an officer with his helmet off... the guy in the middle of the pack there the dynamism I am detecting in his pose needs further investigation.

and of course you gotta post those heresy era pics here man its pretty much the only forum I actually moniter regular anymore

Apoligist I have long been a fan of your Ultramarines and I follow your blog religiously. I've been experimenting again with terminator based truescaling, even thinking a small army may be possible using the Delegatus rules, and seeing how large your army has got is really inspiring me. I think, if you gave time, it would ge good to see some close ups here, as well as the background you have written for then.

That's your version of Guiliman is by the Contemptor isn't it? Do you gave any plans on getting the FW model?

Thanks all – much appreciated.

What blue are you using?

Mordian Blue, with various purples for shading, and Space Wolf Grey (Fenrisian Grey these days?) mixed in for highlights.

I love how they are gritty and look like they've been through a campaign.

Cheers – I admire anyone who can produce the clean, sharp work of a McVey style piece, but I've always been attracted to the more immediate and more textural style. Glad it seems to work :)

Ta! Yes, they're all made using Terminator bits and lots of putty. There's my original blog here which explains everything in more detail (be warned, it's a long, long blog).

As to the officer, I you mean the one I think; that's my second interpretation of Roboute Guilliman himself:

Coo, infiltrating Hydras, eh? ;)  I'm flattered you find the work inspiring – it's more time and practise than anything else. Check out my earlier work in the blog above, and you can see how much simple time and practise can cause gradual improvements. I always love seeing other people's stuff, so please do feel free to write or post :)

If you like the background (again, thanks!), the ever-awesome Doghouse and I are collaborating on a joint blog right here on the B&C if you want some more.

As mentioned, yep, that's Roboute there. I'm very tempted indeed to get the FW version, though I confess it's mainly to loot for bits! The FW one is a stunning model – the quality of the sculpting and painting on the official one is breathtaking – but shonky as he is, I really like the fact that my one is a personal interpretation of the character. :)

They are all sorts of awesome. I particularly like the individual heraldry that some squads and individual marines possess.

Yes, that was a lot of fun. I've been bouncing between the super-individual heraldry of the veteran 15th Chapter and the comparative uniformity of the new initiates into the 190th. I think I've found a balance that keeps my interest up.

Nice signum! next time you could make it a bit taller, just saying.

Ta! There are a couple in there. I've kept them small to help evoke the stature of marines, but I am sorely tempted to buy the FW Roboute Guilliman so I can use the banners on his base in place of the signa here.

Of course, that would involve getting rid of the classic RT-era banner top (taken from a squat, no less)...

IMG_0031.JPG

you don't need to change them, after all every tactical squad can have one. I specially liked the hand on the signum, quite a roman touch!

Heh! It's taken me a while – about six years – to get three squads of 20 together :D

Thanks for the thumbs-up on the hand, I was pleased with that :)

Brilliant. Could you post some more pics of your ventanus and seleton models? smile.png

Ta, and certainly:

Stunning. Seleton remains my favourite TT model i have ever seen. May i ask where his head is from?

Apparently so - I'm told (by the editor) that the name 'Praetor armour' - the style of armour with the blank faceplate was previously unnamed- in this extract is a reference to my blog, the Praetors of Calth.

“Tall as one big man on another big man’s shoulders, broad as any three muscle-heavy athletes, his bulk augmented by the massive ceramite plate of gleaming Praetor-pattern armour, Luciel opens the airgate hatch.”

Wow! thats awesome!

Having seen your models grouped together en masse, I have to say that is an awesome sight! happy.png Whilst I do love the official one, your Guilliman is brilliant. My favourite model is the banner bearer wub.png

As for the Easter egg in know no fear... thumbsup.gif
