Grey Knights: Know Thy Foe

I agree with the sentiment that; just because something is OP, doesn’t mean you have to break something else to “balance it”. When something is broken, you don’t break everything around you so it’s in the same state. You fix the broken bit.

You're describing power creep, which is basically GW's business model. Notice how the average firepower of 40k has shot up edition on edition? That's no accident. Hand in hand, on average, unit point costs and upgrade costs have gone down, not up. Armies are larger, and usually more varied (ie there is more choice than ever, although not all choices are equally valid or powerful of course). Tied in with that, the bloodiness of 40k has increased. Things die faster than in previous editions. 7th is rapidly becoming an edition where armour saves don't matter, and cover saves are rapidly becoming equally worthless. Unless you have invulnerable saves, Feel No Pain or Reanimation Protocols, you're quite often getting no save at all. Vehicles haven't been this irrelevant since 4th, and even in 4th they didn't die so easily. Hull Points are the gift that keeps on giving, in that regard.

They won't be fixing anything. They made Flyers stupidly hard to deal with for 'normal' armies, then gave everyone Flyers and AA options (not equally, but still, there isn't an army left in 40k without either a Flyer/FMC option or an AA one). They created the monstrosities of Riptides, Wraithknights and Knight-Titans, and now we're seeing Space Marines get grav'd as part of the arms race. I dunno what we'll see after that in 8th.

Don’t get me wrong. Huge models with insanely powerful weapons and rules are GREAT AND WONDERFUL. But it’s not the game I would like to play most of the timeSo just give me the option not to without going at the rulebook with a hatchet and having to make my own rules that friends and FLGS will have a harder time accepting. Just an option, right?

I'm afraid that's not GW's design philosophy. They just keep adding things to the game, with the purpose of selling said new stuff.

If you wanna tone down this constant expansion, I'd recommend using the ITC system. Their missions are awful, but their restrictions aren't particularly difficult to meet, and their comp is pretty minimal. That or create your own (as I have, and it's been successful thus far).

GW doesn't want stability, they want chaos, because chaos isn't a pit ... it's a ladder.

;)

Everyone is talking about 8th as if it has already been announced. I get the feeling that I missed something or is that all hyperbole born from frustration? Can someone enlighten me?

Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread. 8th is rumoured to be next year, if not end of this one. Given the rate at which they're updating armies, it seems likely.

Well if someone mentioned it earlier there can be no doubt that 8th is coming. For a moment there I was worried that we had actual evidence :D

Well we've had a lot of codex updates lately. At the rate we're going, everyone is going to have a 7th edition book soon. And GW traditionally updates the major armies (at least) before diving into a new edition. We've been on the tail end of that cycle twice before. It's a trend.

for the 8th edition talk I would not even buy into it. Just for the fact that you're saying within 6 months we are supposed to have a 8th edition 40k, 9th edition fantasy and first edition 30k. that is a whole lot to put out with even more codex updates in a 6-month time span. I extremely doubt that is going to happen especially with how well 7th has been going

Like I said, it's a rumour. I'll wait until I see more definitive signs. It is plausible though.
