considering starting 30k

Recommended Posts

I'm in the same position as you friend! My mate and I are thinking of doing Strike Force initially - it's a small "skirmish" rules set in Horus Heresy Book 3: Extermination that allows for individual model purchase, as opposed to whole units.

At a glance, you have 150 points to spend on 1 Hero and 1-2 Leaders (all of which need to be Characters, including unit sergeants). You then make up a force of between 200 and 350 points depending on the mission. It's a mini campaign with a whole bunch of factors in-game and in between games.

Great way to start an army, especially one as expensive as a Legion!

I would just start with getting the red books and a strike force of your favorite mark of armor, you'll get an HQ and two troops and you can go from there. I did that and it worked out great used that strike force for a few games to get some rules down then added a contemptor dread, then a Sicaran. Now Im at like 5000pts. You should increase your point cap though as 500 is very tiny for 30k. Its like a point limit for ants. You may not even fit a whole strike force into it.

Do it!

Sadly as above it won't stop at 500, my collection is also reaching the 5k mark too.

I'd have thought a Praetor with twenty tacticals and the awesome DG contemptor or something a good solid start depending ultimately on your vision of what you want.

Solid starting list imo, should be fun. If you can put some vexs in the squads as you don't get Atsknf so you'll want that reroll of leadership.

Also you could try this to take advantage of your death guard rule:

HQ
Centuruian with Artificer Armour and Melta Bombs

Troops
2x 10 Tactical Marines both with Legion Vaxilla and Melta Bombs
1x 5 Tactical Support Marines w/ flamers and chem-munitions.

or even

HQ
Centuruian with Artificer Armour and melta bombs

Troops
2x 10 Tactical Marines no upgrades

Elites
Dreadnought with MM/PF w/ heavy flamer and chem-munitions.

both could be fun and are exactly 500.
