Your favorite HH character

Recommended Posts

Title says it all :)

Who is your favorite character of 30k? Or even your top 3 favorite character....And make sure to include why! (I love to read what people think)

My number one is....you guessed it. Ventanus himself. Apart from being a brilliant warrior, tactician, and strategist, he also is a very caring soul. Fighting for the people of calth, under the belief that one day they may no peace.

Number two is Garviel Loken, and for much of the same reasons as ventanus.

My third is a character who many are not happy with, but i love him. Oll perrson so far has been fascinating, and i cant wait to read more of him, and ultimately of his sacrifice.

Sigismund (duh :p)

Ahriman

Dorn (...duh too :p)

I mean, beyond me choosing Characters from my Legion(s) of choice, these stand out since they're the characters that initially drew me to them in the First Place. Dorn being who he is and Sigismund being the Biggest Badass the Imperium has ever (and will ever) known were the reason I first decided to read up on the Imperial Fists. Were it not for them, I'd probably be a Blood Angel at this point in time.

Same goes for Ahriman and the Thousand Sons.

I'll refrain from choosing a primarch as I think they are in a class of their own compared to other characters.

Number one, and has been for a while, is Crysos Morturg. Poor bugger can't catch a break but he'll be damned if it kills him. Born survivor, that one. My favourite Death Guard loyalist and character from Betrayal.

Number two is Alexis Polux. He had greatness thrust upon him at Phall. He then survived Curze's shenanigans in Unremembered Empire and helped fire up xenos-tech useful to the loyalists.

Number three is...  well, it's either Sevatar for being brutally direct and yet having kind of a Moriarty feel to him because of his cunning, or Ahriman for his idealism and drive - he's a scholar of many things (atypical for a 1kson, really) and goes to quite long lengths to save his Legion (which sorta works and get's him exiled).

Warsmith Kyr Vahlen.

He gets surrounded and betrayed so swiftly that his ship couldn't even draw it's guns out of their warp transit shroudings.

His response?

Kick his warship's engines into overdrive, and uses his flying city to bludgeon his enemies's ships to death. Beautiful.

Not to mention, every time he's mentioned, he's described as "cursing constantly". A transhuman after my own heart.  :D

I love Talos, he technically counts :D

He did what he thought was right and was damned for it. Same with Ahriman, I like the whole honorable intentions route.

Loken is a bit too mainstream for me.

Oh I also like Tarvitz and Demeter. They hold out against all odds and fight to the end.

Only in death does duty end.

If there is one thing Warhammer breeds well are interesting and larger than life characters. Even when the story is somewhat shoddy, just the presence of the character helps with the development.

Sevatar.

His Chainglaive is still one of my favorite ideas in the game. His lines are also kinda awesome (Jonathan Kimble voice acting also helped A LOT).

Targutai Yeseguei is also a very well liked one for me. Gotta love an Obi Wan like Astartes who also kick ass by himself, and is kind enough to help a kid and a completely out of place logistian.

I would love to say ALL the Ultramarines, but that would be unfair. So Thiel for now (and Auguston just for his fight with Curze).

The regular humans I like are first, Kasper Hawser just because of what his entire life is; Illya, the before mentioned out of place logistian that helped the Scars. Oll, minimum he finally corrected my BIGGEST gripe with his character and that is a regular human being present in the Vengeful Spirit. And Euten.

Ran

I will avoid primarchs too as they are a different classbof character. As for favorites:

-Lord Marshall Ireton MaSade: First badass human general we've seen so far, i loved his stomping of Archmagos Draykavac at Numinal. That battle made me really hope for another 'filler' book like Conquest.

-Argel Tal: Unlike Erebus or Kor Phaeron, Argel seems like a grey character and not pure evil.

-Ahriman

-Ahriman

Argel Tal is the worst kind of evil, the one thinking its for your own good. :D

Favorite Primarch: Perturabo - Easily the Primarch that I can personally relate to. A brilliant engineer and a ruthless warlord who spent the better part of two hundred years drawing the short straw. My favorite scene is his conversation with Fulgrim in the idealized vision of Olympia - even the latter was taken aback by the grandeur of his vision. The tragedy of Perturabo is that he was shoehorned into doing something he utterly despised (despite the fact that he was frighteningly good at it), while his true dreams were left unfulfilled.

"You don't know my dreams, brother. No one cared enough to find out."

Favorite Loyalist: Aeonid Thiel - A mere sergeant whose quick thinking and improvisation in the face of impossible odds saw him go on to become one of the most legendary figures in the history of the Ultramarines. His ability to "think outside the box" stands against the hidebound Ultramarines of the 41st millennium. This is the person Captain Titus of the video game fame would had been had he been fighting during the Horus Heresy.

Favorite Traitor: Argel Tal - Another tragic villain who committed monstrous deeds while being perfectly aware of what he was doing. One of the few, perhaps the only Word Bearer who was not lost to the overzealous megalomania that came to characterize the entire Legion during and after the Horus Heresy. His interactions with Cyrene painted him as a surprising human character.

MOST HATED: Erebus - Let's just say that even though I play the Traitor, I hate that mustache-twirling bastard. :P

I haven't read all the books, but there are a few stand-outs with what I've covered thus far.

Saul Tarvitz - Embodiment of the Emperor's Children without the ego or hedonism. Disciplined, talented, flexibile, strong believer in personal duty and draws inspiration and strength from the past glories of his legion.

Garviel Loken - Unambiguous "good guy," who has to overcome his own ignorance and faith in those around him to do the right thing - never stops believing in the dream of the imperium, and remarkably open minded.

Ahriman - A crowd favourite no doubt, getting inside his head in the 31st millenium makes this eon spanning character a lot more interesting. Enough ambiguity is added to him and what he believes in to incidentally colour 40k Ahriman not as a mere pawn of Tzeentch, but someone trying to do what he thinks is the right thing and save his legion, and damn the meddling gods (though they might be useful).

Kyr Vhalen.

For the same reasons as Hyaenidae above, left to his own devices doing his duty then elects to take on a massive Alpha Legion force with only a few thousand IV legion and Mechanicum forces. So good. I need a novel just based on this guy - come on ADB or John French please!

Gah, so much choice!

Primarch: Roboute Guilliman - I know going into the Heresy, the name of the Ultramarines was pretty much mud, but man, oh man...I absolutely love Guilliman. Human, but trying to do what is right for the good of the Imperium, putting his own ambitions aside. Unremembered Empire is one of my top 3 books, easily.

Traitor: Khârn - I wasn't fond of his portrayal in Galaxy in Flames (numerous things wrong with that particular book), but Betrayer is a stonking book. Love his bromance with Argel Tal, and how despite knowing his Legion is falling apart and his father is descending ever deeper into madness, he tries to keep his Legion together.

Loyalist: Alexis Pollux - Seriously, just read The Crimson Fist. I don't need to say anymore.

Honourable mentions:

Jaghatai Khan and Perturabo. Two Primarch that we had little information on, but Angel Exterminatus and Scars respectively fleshed them out and made them incredibly compelling charatcers.

The crew of the Sisypheum - The second best thing about Angel Exterminatus, and the subject of my favourite of the novellas so far. Brilliant portrayals of Iron Hands, suffering with grief and their place following their father's loss. I know Sharrowkyn is seen as a bit of a Mary Sue, but I think he's brilliant. And who doesn't love Doc Brown wannabe Frather Thamatica?

And, this one will earn me some ire....but I have a bit of a soft spot for Erebus. I love a bad guy that you can boo and hiss at.

Difficult.

Primarchs: I love Roboute, the Khan and Perturabo. Much like Grand_Master85 haha. I think they've all been portrayed very well, Guilliman in Know No Fear really changed my opinion on him, and the UM in general, to the point they're one of my favourites; Scars made me love the Khan and the WS, a legion I'd had no interest in, and I loved Pert in AE, and found him relatable, even likeable, considering what a bitter character he is.

Loyalists: As much as he is a complete Mary Sue, I love Sharrowkyn. He's just so cool. I need to read Crimson Fist because I'll probably really like Polux. I loved Thiel in KNF. I did like Loken in the first books. I also really like Vespasian and Demeter in Fulgrim, the only EC with any sense apart from Tarvitz!

Traitors: Argal Tal. I love Khârn in Betrayer. Sevatar for the sarcastic bastard he is.

Mortals: Lotara Sarrin. A strong female character with more balls than most of the men. She shot at a World Eater!

Quite a few...

He's had a few mentions but overall I'm going to opt for Sevatar. Yes he's awesome with a blade (a blade that happens to be so signature it's on a cool level all of it's own) he has fantastic dialogue and most importantly, he's not a traitor like others. He's not been deceived and pulled into damnation like Horus or Mortarion nor is he actively chasing his own exaltation like Erebus or Typhon. As ADB has said several times before. For the other Traitor Legions, killing their own was the most horrific thing many of them had ever contemplated, let alone carried out. For someone like Sev, it was a Friday morning. Outstanding.

Honourable mentions go to:

Loyalists: Faffnir Rahn (from his appearance in Templar), Corswain, Eikos Lamiad (even more so since we find out he put Abaddon on his :cuss in seconds)

Traitors: Ahriman, Argel Tal, Little Horus

Primarchs: Perturabo, Magnus. Fulgrim did make the list before his tragedy was turned around so he really was evil all along (:cuss move)

Top three...

Thiel, I don't think I really need to say more here. Just read KNF and read/listen to Censure

Oll, just a fun character to watch, also I enjoyed the 73 Easting reference in the short story I can't remember the name of

Rowd, I mean come on, a penal conscript with Astartes Pattern balls of steel.

Honorable Mentions

Ventanus

Little Horus

Ahriman
