Your favorite HH character

Is Outcast Dead a worthwhile read then? I've heard bad things but the idea of flesh and blood thunder warrior running around Terra seems like it has potential

It has its ups and downs Brother, but the development of the story behind the Thunder Warriors is certainly worth a skim through in my opinion.

Sigismund (ma bro, and primarily because you see the human side of him in the novel "shadows of treachery". Makes you see that even the most skilled of astarte is still human at heart)

Sevetar (basically sigismund but insane? I think hes not as evil as he appears on the surface and just wishes to follow his father)

Malcador the sigilite, ollanius pius(I dont care, he existed) Just some chill dudes that represent basic humanity is still an awe to behold. You dont need to be enhanced to stand strong.

1. Ahriman.  I love the hopeless optimism that he is working to cure his legion of the mutation and the rubric and prove to the imperium that the Thousand Sons were always loyal.  Even if he succeeds it makes no difference and changes nothing.

2. Khârn.  At times funny, at times tragic he is a very interesting character.

3. Sevetar.  Everyones favourite sarcastic jerk of the grim dark future.

Too difficult for me to narrow down much more, I’ve ended up with a top 10 (in no order, not counting primarchs):

Lotara Sarrin

Khârn

Maloghurst

Severian

Tubal Cayne

Koparnos

Dantioch

Sor Talgron

Fel Zharost

Howl of the Hearthworld (okay, this one’s kind of a cheat, it’s the whole pack from ADB’s short of the same name. They just come across so well together, I had to put in the whole)

As for primarchs, top 3 for me:

Angron

Lorgar

Jaghatai Khan

Oll

Grammaticus

argel tal

the sigilite

Primarch-wise i think Lorgar probably. I actually despised word bearers before reading ADB's portrayal.

I did like Loken until he was brought back.

I liked Iacton Qruze as well but didnt like the way they took his story.

oh and a few of the guys from outcast dead were cool (some of the crusading host, the thousand son especially, but certain other guys also :P). The story itself was...questionable.. at times but the characters within and some of the background (hey its set on terra!) was pretty awesome.

Too difficult for me to narrow down much more, I’ve ended up with a top 10 (in no order, not counting primarchs):

Lotara Sarrin

Ah now that's an interesting pick, I didn't even consider beyond astartes!

I thought she was very good too. That human perspective (perpetuals don't count) is something that hasnt been done well as a whole in the heresy.

Autek Mor. A Terran, a tyrant within the Storm Walkers, and his geneseed is rumoured to be... "not as it should be". Plus he took control of the Ra'Guln clan by himself in a single night, just to make a point.

Nârik Dreygur. The first character we see affiliated with the IW lodges, and a :cuss:ing tech-undead astartes.

Alexis Pollux. He-who-made-me-like-the-Fists, his model is simply gorgeous and he just seems the most human of the Two Captains. Can't get to appreciate Sigismund yet.

Yelav Draykavac. Goat skull-wearing renegade Archmagos? YES.

For me I think it's Argel Tal and Khârn.  I love their interactions and I've enjoyed their portrayals.

I also enjoyed Captain Durun Atticus and Sgt. Galba from "Damnation of Pythos".  Which as a side note I think is an underrated book.

And more recently I really dug Gendor Skraivok from "A Safe and Shadowed Place".  I generally love the Night Lords in most of the books.

Argel Tal- could this guy get any cooler? I was actually quite upset reading that bit in Betrayer...

Hurtado Bronzi- quite possibly the most amusing human i ever encountered in the HH series. love him.

Ahriman- Ive always loved wizards. nuff said i guess. lol.

Omegon- truly the primach we know the least about....and founding member of the grey knights! (i love that fan theory so much)

favorite loyalist: Targutai Yesugei- Scars made me really appreciate Chris Wraight's characterization skills with this old stormseer. Especially when he's like a kindly father figure to the shattered legions, and a brother to a primarch in spirit.

favorite Traitor- Mortarion- He started off as such a boring primarch in the Eisenstein, but his portrayal in scars and other short stories really paint a picture of a post-human who just wanted to stop psykers, and ended up being betrayed by everyone, to eventually even betraying his own beliefs. Plus his tank-like fighting style in HH: Conquest, Vengeful spirit and others made me think he's just the toughest opponent.

Yesugei's underrated. I like Henricos and the Khan too.

Mortarion's at his best once he really starts to crack, but Argel Tal is the best traitor as far as I'm concerned.

I've always had an issue with Eidolon. Obviously he has to be pretty good to survive some of the situations the novels place him in off-page, but the only time we really see him do damage are a) using his "improvements" and assisted by Saul and b) slaughtering wounded soldiers after being humiliated for months on end by Saul, whose potential he never recognised. I ended up struggling to believe he could have really held on to his rank.

Loken for me, still re read the first three books every now and then. Heck I even named my son after him :)

As far as primarchs, definitely Mortarion. The dude is a beast.

Your Sons first name is Loken? Really? Wow that's pretty awesome! Once met a guy who's middle name was Merlin but this smashes that out the park.

I'm trying to get my Mrs to sign off on Alexander on behalf of Pollux, but she thinks I'm referring to Final Fantasy Summons and is being stubborn haha.

Kurze, 100% is the best character in HH so far.

Followed swiftly by the likes of Polux, Sigismund, Argal Tal and Sev.

Omegon is just fascinating....is he betraying Alpharius at the end of Serpent Beneath or not...?

Yesugei is like the old Ben Kenobi of the HH series.... wise to the ways of the warp where Ahriman was foolish ;) (love him too tho!)

Kurze because he is tragic in that he is right

Sigismund for his epic-ness (like it is literally making me want to restart IF everytime i hear his name)....
