Your favorite HH character

Arvida was an excellent addition to the series and probably one of my favourite characters now.

Also, Zephon of Baal, the first blood angel in the novels that has been portrayed well IMO

Is that the BA in MoM? I haven't really liked any BA except Sanguinius and Meros so far.

yeah the one from MoM

its the way he handles interaction with humans - shows humility and nobility, honestly beyond just about any member of any legion interacting with humans we've seen IMO. The depiction of things like an appreciation for art, and the idea that prior to his injuries he was a total badass was very cool too. He obviously also gets to turn it up a notch with a temp fix for the bionics too toward the end which helped display just how skilled he actually is/was. His willingness to go along despite knowing he would be expendable was well portrayed too.

definitely hope to see more of him!

My top 2 have to be, as numerous people have mentioned, Argel Tal and Khârn. They are wise men twisted by the flaws of their fathers into monsters, examples of broken humanity that show better than any list of casualty statistics the cost of the Emperor's vision. The third man is tricky, simply because there are so many awesome characters. Sevatar stands out for one of the better comic relief characters without losing credibility as a villain, Loken is admirable for his hope, the Khan for his reasonableness, Ventanus largely because he was the delivery system for Abnett's new cool Ultramarines (not that he wasn't a cool character in his own right). If I had to pick one to join those two, it would probably be Esca. The fact he is hated by his father, they both feel physical pain in each other's presence, and is cut off from the rest of his legion, yet follows his lord into rebellion, is a wonderful tragic storyline.

P.S. I swear I have read more HH books than Betrayer. It's just it was so good. Even the other good books in the series struggle to keep up.

Bjorn the Fell-Handed-Told the truth to the face of an angry, distraught Primarch. Always told the truth as he saw it. Faced down a daemon of the Primordial powers two times before while many refused to believe in them. Always stalwart and true

A tie between Sigismund and Bjorn

So After a year more of Reading I think I  could Ammend this a bit

Sigismund from the 7th  , Bjorn from the 6th , and Redloss   from the 1st legion

all  tied  all of them are just extremely well written characters

#1: Ventanus and Selaton. Their ability to crack off a joke while their legion is being annihilated made them instantly likable. Really though, Know no Fear is amazing, and it truly deserves being the first Horus heresy book in the black library hall of fame, Abnett is God.

thank you for the compliment

Ignace Karkasy: He was funny, relatable, and died fighting for his ideals even though he never really held a weapon.

Amendera Kendel: Former Sister of Silence, the first true Inquisitor, and the first human to order Exterminatus - proving that women have an important (and metal as $*) role in the heresy.

Rear Admiral Kaminska: Another strong female character - without her the Furious Abyss wouldn't have been destroyed and bad things would have happened to Macragge... and I have to love a human that mouths off regularly to marines and gets away with it - which brings me to:

Flag-Captain Lotara Sarrin: This woman is a true daughter of Khorne - bloodthirsty, completely bad-ass, and takes no censored.gif: - all wrapped up in a civilized package that shows that a bloodthirsty future servant of Khorne can collect blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne, and reap a bloody tally while still chilling like a bond villain. Even Angron respects her and I dare say LISTENS to her. She shot a berserker IN THE FACE and not only lived to tell about it but stood her ground to cuss him out afterwards. I really hope that Angron and Khorne have kept her around in the 41st millenium - cause having her as a Daemon Princess still commanding Angron's fleet would be awesome - or having her become the mind and soul of the ship would be cool as well even if it would make me sad (But AD-B, if you are reading this... Daemon Princess - she deserves it and can cause death for Khorne on a massive scale - and the image of a Khornate Daemoness in a ships' command-throne wearing an immaculate uniform with the bloody-hand calmly issuing orders with a noble-born enunciation... that image is priceless and shows Khorne's depth that is rarely seen... heck, now I want to convert a Valkia the Bloody model into Daemon Lotara just because). Easily one of my favorite characters even though she's not a core marine character. She stole the show in Betrayer and I'm looking forward to more of her.

Would be nice to get a Calth novel with the Fourth again.

Well, of course he's above what the BA have for legion characters so far, you can count the BA dramatis personae on your left hand.... Jokes aside, I really liked the BA in Fear to Tread for the reasons you list about Zephon. What I didn't like about Fear to Tread was a lack of more than 2 grunt characters to enjoy.

Apart from a lot of the characters mentioned here, I really liked Nero Vipus in the first HH books. He seemed like Loken's little brother, affiliated with the heavy hitters of the story, but never quite one of the 'in' crowd. Gets left behind by Loken and Torgaddon when they go on their revenge mission and is one of the last loyalists left at Tarvitz's side at the end. I also really liked Zephon in MoM. It was refreshing to see a BA character that wasn't just 'red thirst' this and 'gene flaw' that. I really hope he gets explored further and we can see how he came to earn the nickname Bringer of Sorrow.

I like the Emperor and Horus. Although the BL has been playing them down a tad, I would consider their impact on the story to be relatively important. Just cos, you know... the Heresy couldn't have happened without them.

In all seriousness, Zephon in MoM and Loken in the original trilogy.

Not sure if this means you are Abnett in disguise or that you are being funny about using Ventanus' name as your username.

Sevatar, Torgaddon, and Khârn in no particular order.

I find myself drawn to marines that show a sense of humor, whether it be dark, dry, witty etc. I just feel it easier to like and understand as a truly human emotion, something space marines and the setting in general is usually lacking in.

Argel Tal deserves an honorable mention, as tragic as he was his sense of duty was inspiring and the ending of Betrayer had me damn close to tears

Only the emperor knows the truth...
Autek Mor. He's so badass dropped a moon on a we training planet. IMO no one on the traitor side is as brutal outside of the primarchs. I think if fulgrim had managed to turn ferruz the loyalists would have been steam rolled all the way to terra. As IH are just brutal and will extetminatus anything in their way just to clear a path

Came here to post this but the ham-man already beat me to it!

Also Torgaddon is awesome.

I for the longest time was undecided but after reading Leman Russ I have to say I'm firmly in the wolf kings camp he had so much humanity and character the lion was really good to but to see a primarch show real human emotions was a rare treat.
Just finished MoM, and Zephon needs to go on my list now. Aside from being a truly sympathetic character and faithful to the last, his charge against the *SPOILER HIDDEN* after it mangled the Knight was, to me, the purest moment of what a Space Marine is about - all looks lost, the enemy unstoppable, his weapons near-useless, but he still fights on.

I agree with the page one poster who mentioned Perturabo. His story really shows how the Emperor is just too far above everyone, even the Primarchs,  to even remotely understand how they think or feel. The Emperor is one callous bastard.

No one has mentioned a single Salamander character? They need to get some better writers for the 18th legion! Vulkan is the biggest bro in all of the Space Marine legions. Pretty much everyone loved the guy.
