Some of you have seen my Armored Company:

Originally, I had only intended on adding 2 small units of Scions with a Commissar, but after reading this forum over the last couple of weeks, I've decided on a much larger force. My Special Missions detachment will consist of a Command squad, 3 eight man Scion units, and four Taurox Primes.

These were originally built as plain Tauroxes, but after reading about how good the Primes are, I added the Missile launchers. I don't like the Autocannons on the side, so I left the on the turret, which meant raising the missile launcher up in order for it to fire over it. My next two Primes will have the Gatling guns, but I will need to find an alternate place to mount the volley guns.

This is my force so far. A Commissar, an Inquisitor (cause they are cool), a command squad, and 3 eight man scion units. More progress pics to come.

They will painted to match my veterans, gray uniforms with royal blue accents.

I'm waiting on some beret heads that I ordered from Mad Robot and Maxmini, along with some resin bases before I continue.

I'm also going to add a 4th eight man squad to put in a Taurox and use the command squad with their 4 meltas as a deep strike unit.

Eventually, I will add a 5th squad (probably 10 man) and put my Commissar warlord with them in bunker, somewhere in my back field.

Your armoured company looks really nice, I can't wait to see more from you.

I do love the wheeled Tauroxes, they are so much nicer looking than GW tracked version.  What colors are you planing for your Infantry?

So true, they look a lot more like a real vehicle with wheels.

Definitely. I hope to get started painting this next week. Just got the wheeled conversion sets for my a second two Tauroxes.

As for the force itself, I don't really plan on doing a full Scion force, but a mix of combination of AM veterans and Scions.

The force:

Primary Combined AM force:

A fully kitted out Commissar Lord. ( I love Commissars. I've always used them and rarely am I disappointed. There's also the cool and fluff factor. My two favorite characters in the 40k verse are Commissars, Giant and Cain)

2 to 3 Mechanized Veteran units. At least one will be shotguns, 2 meltas, heavy flamer, and Sgt with power Axe - this is the Commissar's unit.

2 to 3 LRBT variants. Because I love tanks.

A combined arms detachment of Scions.

Command squad with 4 meltas, either deep striking or riding in a Gatling gun Prime. I didn't want this as the Warlord because it will be a 'big game' hunter/suicide squad

3 to 4 eight man units of Scion in Primes.

I think that gives me fluffy and semi competitive force..

Looks like Nap Time in the Barracks!

The wheeled conversion sets are from Blood & Skulls eBay store (they also have an awesome Chimera conversion set that I've used).

The storage/ammo boxes from the SM Rhino sets fits perfectly between the two missile launchers and elevates just over the turret.

And, hey, I'm ex-military, you grab a nap anytime you can....

  • 4 weeks later...

I had given a Scion model to buddy of mine so he could complete his Inquisitor unit, so I came up one model short to finish my 3 ten man Scion squads and command unit. I had a box of SM Scouts, so I tried making one of my Scion Sgts using a Scout body. The Scion arms look awesome on Scout bodies. It looked so great that I used the remaining 4 Scout bodies to make some officers for my AM army.

Here is my Power axe wielding Sgt next to a regular Scion Sgt:

Next are two AM officers. One with a power fist (Note the Arnold Schwarzenegger head) and one with a power sword:

My last two officers. One with plasma pistol and an Axe wielding officer that I Space-wolf'd out with some extra SW bits I had:

I really liked how they turned out and will probably paint them up as soon as I get my Tauroxes finished.

One thing I have to say I like about the Scion models is that they make some pretty good characters. I want to get another box of them, to make Sgt Kell and Lord Creed (counts as of course), and some other commander type models, like a Commissar/Officer with power fist.

Here are all my Scions, fully assembled and base coated with Tamayo German Grey:

Warrior Fish, you had mentioned the balaclava heads, these are my Ratling snipers using those heads:

These are some of my regular infantry troops, using the Mad Robot Vietnam torsos, arms, and helmeted heads:
