WaywardWarsmith
Hey all! First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place...I was debating whether to post it in the Black Library sub-forum but I went here in the end... I'm a huge fan of the Horus Heresy novels! I know there's no set order you need to read them in, but I'd be interested in hearing if the fans have managed to figure out a chronological order (presuming that First Heretic is first?) Also, if anyone has any news about future HH books I'd be pleased! I've heard rumours about Master of Mankind, Crimson King, and Nightfall - but I'd love to know if there are any rumours about stories covering untouched Legions like the Death Guard or Imperial Fists. Thanks for your help! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308571-chronological-reading-of-the-hh-novels/ Share on other sites
Chandrian
First Heretic is the 14th novel in the series. Horus Rising should be the first book you read :) http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Horus_Heresy_SeriesThis might help you for the Novels. I myself am not sure where all the shorts come in. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308571-chronological-reading-of-the-hh-novels/#findComment-4067449 Share on other sites
Olis
Lev, chronological order doesn't mean by order they were written. Wayward wants to read them by order of events. Brother-Chaplain Kage
The Black Library has a suggested reading order of all the books and short stories, roughly in timeline progression. http://www.blacklibrary.com/Home/our-ranges-horus-heresy.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308571-chronological-reading-of-the-hh-novels/#findComment-4067608 Share on other sites
Tymell
Hopefully this might help https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Tymell/the_horus_heresy_series__a_reading_guide/ It's only my own take, but I've gone through the stories extensively looking for chronological reference points, dates, etc, and pieced it all together as best I can. I am still re-reading some of the novels, so it's a work in progress, and some stories really don't have any indicators as to when they occur, so some are just placed where I feel they fit or fill a chronological gap. But it's the closest I can get without splitting certain novels apart (which you have to if you want a true chronological order). I tend to place the broader novels, like Fulgrim or The First Heretic, on the basis of their climactic event, that's just me. Regarding the series' future, not a whole lot is known. There's Deathfire next month, and The Crimson King expected later this year. Two DA novels have been mentioned, with working titles of "Angels of Caliban" by Gav Thorpe, and "Dreadwing" by Dan Abnett, the former focusing more on the events on Caliban and the latter on the DA contingent within Imperium Secundus. Master of Mankind (and presumably Nightfall beyond that) is on hold for now until ADB feels the HH mojo again (yeah baby!). Red-Marked is I believe an audio about Thiel by Nick Kyme, and Cybernetica is supposed to be a Mechanicum novella from Rob Sanders. There's also talk of another Raven Guard novella from Gav Thorpe, an Imperium Secundus anthology, another graphic novel, and a sequel to Scars, but I know nothing beyond that on those. I'd love some Death Guard and Imperial Fists coverage too, but I don't know of anything planned right now. After reading Daemonology, I desperately want to see Chris Wraight tackle Mortarion and the Death Guard!
