1850pts Alpha legion - 2 list choice

Greetings brothers and sisters of the heresy.

 

Wondering if i can get some help, i have a game vs 40k space wolves tonight and know it will include dreadnoughts and drop pods.

 

My choices are to either max out my tac supports woth volkites or give artificer and meltabombs to my tacticals and use the left overs the armoured ceramite my sicaran.

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I only have the one hq and as a MoS cannot be my compulsory and i want a rite of war i dont think i can squeeze it.

 

How are meltabombs vs dreadnoughts (boxy not contemptor).

 

I could drop a special weapon from the tactical support seargant for interceptor granting augury scanner for free instead?

Hey, sorry to be awkward, but wouldn't it be a great idea to put a copy of your list available in your first post ?  This is the army list thread afterall :)

 

That way people can see what would be good choices for replacing items to get the augury scanner etc.

If you remove the individual points cost of each entry and just do a total on each troop type (eg Elites: 275 points, Troops: 567 points etc) it will be perfectly fine. And I'm an AL fan, so really curious to see what you planning to use there msn-wink.gif

PS: if the game has already happened, please at least let us know what you and your opponent had and how it went on?

Basically i won roll of and went second. My interceptor weapons took aim at 2 pods coming in. One contained bjorn. Ouch.

 

Needless to say my volkites got killed after some fairly effective interceptor shots on some grey hunters.

 

Turn 2 the coils of the hydra proved its worth and blocked most of his reserves. Iron havocs wrecking a DS land speeder and doing some damage to a podding in tac squad with libby.

 

He rolled up my sicaran with bjorn and the tac squad soon followed against the lib and tac combo. His long fangs and grey hunters copped some nasty fire from my quad guns and scorpius.

 

Turn 3 his first termi squad came on. Right next to my delegatus with nanyte blaster. Those termi didnt last long. His other termi squad didnt make it in.

 

Wittling down his units. Bjorn and some pods went up this turn. My quad guns all died to the libby and tacs before said enemy unit took cover in a building.

 

Turn 4 my raptor came on and wrecked both another dread, some grey hunters and long fangs. His libby unit died to scorpius fire and the terminators to fury of the legion.

 

His other terminators mishaped into ongoing reserves and i mopped up alot of what was left. His long fangs stubbornly stuck around near an objective.

 

Turn 5 his termi finally came on and got proply raptored and furied to death with some added scorpius. Some survived and stuck by an objective.

 

Turn 6. More pod killing by me and many saves by him.

 

Game ends with him having first blood, me having slay the warlord and him having 6 vp from 2 obj due to game types.

 

I had lost a few tac marines here and there, 2 havocs, my thudd guns and sicarans.

 

He had lost everything bar 2 long fangs, 2 terminators and a pair of badlt damaged pods.

 

I feel my list worked well. I hurt him alot on the way down and kept up the pressure even as he came to me. Lost due to not paying attention to objectives.

 

Dont think he will be putting terminators near the nanyte blaster again.

 

We have a rematch next week and i think i will fare much worse as he knows what to expect and some of my tricks dont work twice (nanyte and volkite intercepting).

Nice battle report here! Very clear and easy to understand! I take it your Sicaran didnt get to do much during this game before it got destroyed? Good thing is, it seemed to have attracted a lot of his attention which allowed you to obliterate a lot of his units.

 

Next time try playing around with the list a bit, as he will be ready for you!

Im back and going to be playing against some necrons. Maybe the AL stumbled across a tomb world before their time.

 

Anyway, any suggestions on how you would change the list above. Saw me well against drop pods and deep strikers but i dont know what i will need vs necrons. I know the guy will be running the decurion so have 4+ FNP.

Necrons are T4 Right? Since instant death reduces the effectiveness of their RP save by -1, spam as much S8 as you physically can to mitigate this; even better if its in template form since they're better at attrition fighting than we probably are.

 

Another thing is get into CC with them. With I2 and low # and Quality of attacks, sweeping them shouldnt be that hard.

Oh boy lets see if i can remember.

 

Necron army had 1 ghost ark, 2 warrior squads (one in ghost ark), wraiths with spyder and scarabs, immortals with gauss, 2 units of lychguard with scythes and a flyer plus a bunch of characters.

 

Mine was as you see above minus half the tac support squad to pay for extra ccw on the tacs and hellstrikes on the raptor.

 

I won the roll of and decided to deploy first and go first (infiltrating everything ofcourse)

 

He deployed in a diagonal line across the board with his wraiths on one flank and his ghost ark and scarabs (hidden) in the other.

 

I just wacked my guys where i felt like, though in hindsight my warlord was abit out of the way). Scorpius and havocs holding an objective in the back field with thudd guns having LoS on his ark.

 

Turn 1

 

AL

 

Turn 1 i did some tac shuffling to get into LoS on his hidden scarabs and onto an objective in the center of the board (more on that later). Put some shatter shells into thw ghost ark. Expected a jink but he didnt. Front armour 13 was no match for 12 sunder rounds. First blood. Scorpius and thesicaran poured fire into the wraiths, no wounds. Havocs took the spider down to a single wound. Furied his scarabs down to one base and took some volkite pot shots and boltgun fire at the newly exposed warriors.

 

Necrons

 

Lots of movement, closing the range gap with his warriors and putting his lychguard into cover. Warriors did a little shooting but nothing damaging. Wraiths charged a ten man tac plus apoth in the board center and did no wounds. I also did no wounds (RP is a bugger).

 

Turn 2

 

AL

 

Fire raptor turned up to cause some pain. His missles are now worthless (i was expecting more vehicles). Moved my centurion closer to combat and got everyone lined up for more shots. Shooting started to take its toll on the necrons this round. The spyder died removing reanimation from the wraiths and lots of boltguns and thudd guns rounds whittled down warriors and immortals alike. Assault phase and the wraiths were once again tarpitted, a few wounds on me but FnP and reroll leadership saves my bacon.

 

Necrons

 

Oh dear. Nightscythe comes in and drops its lychguard behind my lines near the scorpius and havocs. Said lychguard pop a snap shot only relic off. Interceptor flakk missles take the flyer out instantly though. Lychguard join combat with wraiths and marines begin to die. Still hold in combat.

 

Turn 3

 

AL

 

Shooting at anything atill upright and close to me. All largely ineffective duebto reanimation protocols. Assault a unit of warriors and try to kill the lychguard by my tanks. Flyer does very little. Assault i finally loose vs the combined wraith and ap2 warscythe attacks. Warriors and marines hold the line.

 

Necrons

 

Things start to go bad. Lychguard remove scorpius and havocs. Wraiths charge thudd guns and warlord still on walkabout.

 

Turn 4

 

AL

 

Shoot all the things. Sicaran tries to run away but immobilises. Warlord gets close enough to do something. Fluffs his nanyte blaster roll. Volkites do more damage to unengaged immortals. Wraiths die to CC with my thudd gun crew.

 

Necron

 

Tarpits my warlords unit with a single necron lord. Other 2 lychguard squads proceed to kill sicaran and make a beeline to tarpitted warlord respectively. Warriors vs marines still going on in one corner. Tomb blades arrive from reserve and sit still.

 

Turn 5

 

AL

 

Warlord unit remains tarpitted. Volkites do their best to take down a few lychguard in range. Fire raptor drops to hover to try and keep up the fire (bad move in hindsight).

 

Necrons

 

All the lychguard get in close to decimate my warlords unit. Warrior vs marine combat still at deadlock. Tomb blades zip to obkective along with scarabs.

 

Game ends.

 

I loose on VP and have taken a real beating.

 

Threw a navigator in so i could run a similar list vs tau. Powerful but illegal (forgot about IC without infiltrate cannot join units with infiltrate). Did well though, deleted a riptide turn 1.

 

Still tweaking the list and getting used to 40k/30k. This is my 5th 30k game and have never played vanilla 40k.
