the Purgation Pipes are calling

I need to change things up a bit. I painted up a set of promethium pipes for the ETL and still haven't even tried them.

The idea with cover save and enhanced flamer rules kind of motivated me to paint them up and give it a shot.

So how would you guys configure a Purgation squad and razorback for the pipes? I'm thinking of going twin las razorback and 5 purges with 2 incinerators and maybe 2 psycannons but not sure.

How about a special mission? Pipes and army in the middle, assailed on all sides by the enemy. A desperate last stand against the hordes on a mission gone wrong by the Knights. Or perhaps success; running to the redevouz point, having to hold the area for 30mins with dropship inbound?

I reckon if you are getting the pipes for torrent, you may as well go whole hog!  All the incinerators you can muster

The promethium pipes look cool

but i doubt of their utility against some armies

as the torrent + template give you maximum of 20" of range how do you deal with bottom table armies?

- Well I agree the pipes look cool, but before I write them off as 'terrain', the idea here is to try everything out I can. I said I would, and I do with every codex.... the idea here is the best way to use them. I agree 20" is not a huge thing but....

- Maelstrom. It never hurts to have something sitting mid to a third of the way up on Maelstrom. In fact I found with many of my Maelstrom games that my very aggressive stance with the army has me doubling back sometimes to either deny/contest or grab a point.

- So the hope is that I have a Razorback with nearly table sight, slapping down the las or las/plas and gaining a 4++.  The Purgation squad might be a poor loadout the way I've written it. My thinking at the time was, if I lose the razorback and I've got some thing like a Dreadnought rushing my position.... then what? I'd prefer that the squad remain fairly self-reliant because if I'm doubling back other units, I've defeated my purpose of including these guys.

-  Right now the squad sits at a total of 225 + Pipes. So unfortunately that is the cost of a Dreadknight.... I'm going to try to ignore that, and see if I can make a difference with it. Since the squad should be well spread out, plus the Razorback (the pipes cover a good amount of table width), my hope is I won't have to move... much. And the Psycannon can plink away at the odd high toughness cretin rushing me.... still not sure though.

As some have suggested I'm thinking of using the Purgs as pure Incinerator, and that way they have redundancy.... It would be nice to put something else in there though. Maybe 3-1 Incinerators to Psycannons just for dual purpose (or playing against an army that will have zero incinerator use on?)

Another possibility is to set your pipes as general terrain for the game like that the location of it will be random on the field

but most probably somewhere closer to your opponent.

then you deep strike in it turn 1 with 1 or 2 10 men strike squad with 2 incinerator each

like that you will be able to flame everything for the rest of the game and your opponent will be urged to make something about them.

(this may actually be a good plan to get the opponent attention off our termi)

(shrug) you're taking the Pipes for the bonus to incinerators. Go full incinerator, otherwise you're just diluting the whole purpose of the combo.

As for it's actual usefulness...it'll be great against most infantry, but vehicles don't care and neither for MC's, Flyers, 2+ units etc. It would be utterly hilarious against horde lists though. Tyranid players will be enraged seeing that across the table, so would a Green Tide list for Orks.

NSF?

Nemesis Strikeforce doesn't benefit Purgators in any way

ehm... nop....

i know that... what i meant to say was that with the NSF you can push from the back (deep strike)

Sure you can still DS with the rest of your force but the point invested in the pipes and purgators will be wasted.

You will end up with a half force deep striking and another half waiting behind your pipes that something want to pass in their range.

A well prepared bottom table army will have no pain deleting your half DS in a turn

Exactly. Splitting up your forces is only going to help the enemy. We excel at putting all our strength on one flank and rolling the enemy battleline. Few other armies can do that in the same way we can, or even choose to anymore.

Anyway, Purgators+Pipes is a fun build. Wouldn't worry too much about winning at that point, you're just trolling people with Torrent incinerators on the cheap ;)
