Cult mech battle congregation question

Recommended Posts

When making the battle congregation in the cult mech book can you also use the formation rules? I ask cause I don't have a rule book yet and I plan on buying most of it (including rule book) tomorrow

Edit: nvm while reading the cult mech book I found the answer sorry guys

If you are using the Battle-forged method for organizing your army, the Cult Mechanicus Battle Congregation Detachment may be used.

This would be the one with:

Compulsory: 1 Headquarters, 2 Troops
Options: 6 additional Troops, 4 Elites, 2 Heavy Supports, 1 Fortification

If you are using the Unbound method, which means taking whichever units you like, you can use the datasheet formations included in the codex.

These would be:

Cohort Cybernetica - C:CM p.66
Elimination Maniple - C:CM p.67
Numinous Maniple - C:CM p.68
Holy Requisitioner - C:CM p.69

The War Convocation formation - WD69 p.23 - allows you to combine:

Cult Mechanicus Battle Congregation - C:CM p.56

Skitarii Battle Maniple - C:S p.54

Imperial Knight Oathsworn Detachment - C:IK p.99

Cohort Mechanicus - exclusive with GW web bundle - that's a Battle Congregation & Battle Maniple combined with its own special rules.

Um to be clear, you can use the formations if you are going battle forged as well. You could take just the formations and be unbound, or you can take the congregation and take some formations and remain battle forged.

Really? In C:CM p.56, it states Unbound for the datasheets and Battle-forged as Combined Arms & Allied Detachments from the 40K Rules and the CM Battle Congregation.

Do you mean one could take a Battle Congregation and, say, the Cohort Cybernetica Formation (as Combined Arms/Allied Detachment since they are of the same faction) and still be Battle-forged?

It means the data sheets for the individual units. So if you're going unbound you can just pick what ever you want. However each Formation is in itself a detachment. As long as your army is made up of detachments it is battle forged. So you can take any combination of formations and detachments from any of the available books or supplements and be battle-forged.

Edit: Pg 121 of the BRB: "Formations are a special type of Detachment..."

"...and knowing is half the battle!"

I was seeing the whole detachment/formation as too black/white.

Thanks for the clarification.
