Ishagu
I got an email back from FW regarding a Cortex Controller inside a Transport... They said it's open for interpretation and gamers should decide between themselves :-/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308802-vorax-battle-automata/page/2/#findComment-4076241 Share on other sites
Castiel
Based in precedent I'd say no, given that other auras don't. I will say that the Vorax models look a lot better in person than they do in pictures, which is nice. They're a pretty tough unit and good SM killers in combat, but beware tooled up Praetors, who can rip them apart. Their shooting is pretty rubbish, but there is a lot of it, and the lightning guns can be a real pain. Emperors Teeth
Seems to be some confusion over who can take Vorax and where... Ordo Reductor - NO Legion Cybernetica - YES (Fast Attack) Taghmata Omnissiah - YES (Fast Attack) Questoris Knights - NO Solar Auxilia - NO Imperialis Milita - NO Legiones Astartes - YES* *You may take Vorax Battle-automata with your Legiones Astartes in the following circumstances: - You are using a Legion Praevian and are selecting them as his retinue (all Legions); it's a HQ choice. - You are a playing Iron Hands with 'The Head of the Gorgon' Rite of War. You may take any Legio Cybernetica Battle-automata Maniples as Elites choices. Remember, this is just regarding Vorax. Castellax & Thallax pop up all over the place depending on equipment taken. Fairstrife1138
Ok now I'm seriously confused. You can take Castellax and Thanatar in a Legion list without needing a Praevian or anything? How? Reyner
Any unit with a Cortex Controller lets you bring in a single squad of Battle Automata (note Battle not Siege so no Thanatar!) as Heavy Support. So that covers Castellax, Vorax and the new ones from Tempest (dudes with rocket launchers and grav-hammers based on Conquerors). So a Forge Lord can have a CC or if you are Iron Warriors then any character can take one, think Iron Hands get this too. Fairstrife1138
So no Thanatar. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308802-vorax-battle-automata/page/2/#findComment-4076702 Share on other sites
infyrana
Correct. So just to help unmix you a little (since the list give by Emperor's Teeth was about Vorax specifically), I believe the following is correct: The Thanatar Siege Automata (the massive plasma cannon dude) is not available to Legion Astartes without grabbing some Allies. Thallax Cohort and Castellax Class Battle-Automata are both available to Legion Astartes as Heavy Support via the Cortex Controller - subject to the rules given. The Cortex Controller is usually found as an option for the Forge Lord and also as a fixed part of the Praevian's rules. The rules for Vorax have since been added and you will need to re-read other posts above for more info. Castellax and Vorax class Battle-Automata are available as a retinue for a Praevian subject to the rules given as per the FW Download for Narik which includes the detailed Praevian rules. Fairstrife1138
Ahh that makes sense. And is annoying as shhh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308802-vorax-battle-automata/page/2/#findComment-4076780 Share on other sites
Ishagu
If I added a Praevian I'd probably go with Vorax as the models are incredibly cheap to buy when compared to the Castellax, and they won't attract as much enemy fire as they move upfield... And yet, 5, T7 4W MC's with a 3+/5++ makes for a decently durable Fire Magnet that can pump out a lot of damage in return. I should know, I faced on last Monday and it took My Plasma Seekers Suiciding into them (and Dying t1 but killing 1 + 3wounds on another), my Achilles shooting them all game and finally a Kheres/Grav Contemptor Bopping them on the head to finish off the Castellax but not the Praevian. Also helps that W_P couldn't make 5+ invulns to save his life that game :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308802-vorax-battle-automata/page/2/#findComment-4076882 Share on other sites

They all had Darkfire Lances. You tell And 2 Chem-Munitions Flamers Each (he was testing a Death Guard List) ...And the Praevian gives the unit Preferred Enemy if he Shoots first (and hits, doesnt need to deal damage) All in all, the unit was ~600 ish points. depthcharge12
Anyone consider using Vorax in an Iton Hands list to try and supplement their lackluster assault units? The AP2 at initiative is nice and they're a bit more survivable with the Praevian giving them +1 T against shooting attacks, not to mention able to tank for them. Outflank those little velociraptors and let them rip through the backfield :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/308802-vorax-battle-automata/page/2/#findComment-4077020 Share on other sites
Emperors Teeth
Honestly, no. It's their 4+ save. A handful of autocannon fire and it's all over. I wrote a 1000pt Zone Mortalis list that used a pair of lone Vorax with Irad Cleansers. They'd outflank and hopefully do what you suggest in combat. In regular games on a more open board, I'd take Castellax over them every time. They're so much more durable and likely to make contact with the enemy.
