Best looking Legion

Recommended Posts

Most of us might well be biased.  Death Guard for me, I can't help but see a picture of them painted and feel positive about them - the dirtier the better.  No matter how I feel about rules, models, or otherwise, I see painted DG on google images and just know where I'm at.

For me, second in line would include:

- Night Lords (some people can paint them extremely well indeed, including the lightning! Augustus' springs to mind)

- Sons of Horus (the right shade of sea'ish green can make these guys look awesome, spex has done an awesome version of them)

- Imperial Fists (a well painted yellow with added weathering looks great, I'm not so keen on all the mixed in black for templars though, spoils it).

- Ultramarines (a nice dark blue with some weathering once more, the boys in blue look great if darkened down with plenty of oil stains and mud for a change)

- Alpha Legion (I saw a well painted army of these once and remember it enough to include them in this list, mikefrench from another forum?)

My gut instinct is to say Death Guard for the same reasons Infyrna stated, funnily enough. I guess the sons of Mortarion travel together. I've seen Iron Hands models that are great, too. Hey, look at that: two armies I collect in the running! Who would have thought happy.png?

Really, I want to see Space Wolves and White Scar armies. My own taste put aside, those are the two I really want to see fleshed-out. There are some people that have already started on Space Wolves and their work is usually fantastic.

Best looking?

If have to say Sons of Horus in the dark sea green, Night Lords, and Word Bearers.

Srsly, have you seen the wine colored WB tanks with all the glyphs on them? I'd ritually sacrifice members on this forum to get my hands on the really well paired ones :P

The answer to that question is very subjective, and I don't want to see this become a screaming match about who's Legion is prettier.

My personal vote? I've always thought the White Scars made for a beautiful army, and have you seen One-Eye's V Legion? My goodness.

HAHAHAHAHA! Is this even a serious question? Everybody knows the III Legion are where it's at when it comes to good looks and grace. Exhibit A: Palatine Blades (in my opinion the best infantry kit produced by FW) ;)

But seriously, all of the Legions can look great if done well.

Frankly any completed army painted well deserves the old tip of the hat.

That said im looking at this question more as which legion would make for an eye catching collection. The IIIrd Vth VIIth IXth XIIIth XVth have some inherently 'look-at-me!' kind of schemes.

but anyone at anytime could come along and turn any army (30k/40k/whatever) into a masterpiece.

I'm gonna throw it out there and some of the really best stuff I've seen painted are the sons of Horus ( sea green man what a colour), Emperors children and Alpha Legion ( especially the metallic blue green schemes). Though all legions I've seen painted well these three make my paintbrush twitch for a challenge. Then I look at tanks. Then I have to remind myself I'm a child of the night and unless I start robbing banks I shouldn't be looking at other legions yet :p

Glad that this hasnt devolved :D Good :D

I honestly think that some of the Legions CAN look good, but most, at tabletop level..cant. But thats just me.

Salamanders, Iron Hands, White Scars, Raven Guard to mention but a few, if i was to paint them MYSELF, would look like tripe dressed as Eaton Mess.

But i think when it comes to pro painted, anything can look amazing. But the ones that always catch my eye are Emperors Children and Death Guard. As they are as polar opposite as you can get in this game.

Glad that this hasnt devolved biggrin.png Good biggrin.png

"I am the Iconoclast. Nothing that strays from the Imperial Truth shall escape my wrath."

:P

In truth, everybody here is awesome. Nothing ever devolves like that around here. Civil discourse is the key to a healthy community, and we have a very healthy community. :)
