Best looking Legion

Recommended Posts

So it seems, massively impressed.

But there is a drawback.. with everyone so nice, and all the projects looking so good.. picking a fracking Legion is too hard.

Roll a D20, profit.

For me, each scheme lends itself to certain kinds of units more than others.

Line infantry: Imperial Fists. Basic marines really pop with the weathered yellow with black trim.

Elites: Emperor's Children. Purple, gold and platinum/white enamel looks superb on their specific elites and generic ones.

Tanks: Iron Hnads. Black with chrome looks fantastic -functional but every eye catching. Word Bearers are a close 2nd with all the freehand potential

They all look great. I even really like the look of the Imperial Fists, and generally I hate yellow. I do love the Emperors Children (purple is my favourite colour, and twinned with platinum, reds, turquoses, golds... It's very fetching), but I can't think of any legion I don't like the look of.

That's hardly a negative, lol.

First thing first, stop looking at the rules for the moment. It's making your decision worse, and you know it is.  :P

Next, think of a playstyle you like. This doesn't really take any Legion out of the running, as every Legion can do the task of any other. Do you like heavy armour formations? Light Cavalry? Elite strike teams? Massed infantry movements (20-man squads are more dangerous than those Rhino-lovers are willing to admit ;) )? Orbital drops? Focusing on a 'mastered' technique for your Legion will help you imprint your look and style with that Legion, instead of the other way around.

What kind of look are you aiming for, what kind of impression do you want your opponent to have when he looks at your army all together on the table? What do you want them to fear when you're moving across the table towards him?

The Dark Angels with there red legion icon on there black armour each knight of caliban sporting his knight,s coat of arms or the field of green on his shoulder pauldron and most important the roman number ][ telling everyone who they are.

Well at least IMHO.

Each Legion has its own taste..

For me..

Overall: Sons of Horus. The Black, Bronze & Sea Green just creates an awesome dark aura on the field, without beeing too boring. The spikes make them look pretty brutal and badass. Love them!

Specific:

- Emperors Children Elites. Look at the terminators, the palatine blades and the dreadnought.. they are a work of art, looking like noble, ancient gods of battle clad in relic armour.. they have a greek touch, I really like this!

- Ashen Circle. Look at the awesome daemonic armour with all the sorcerous circles.. they look so wonderfully easy but complex at the same time.. and their weapons look badass too.. hooked blades like they are e to slaughter a horde of zombies..

- Alpha Legion.. their metallic, karibic blue in combination with white and the hydra symbolic reminds me of ancient greece again.. The scales add some "water serpent" flavour.. lovely. And Dynat is one of the most awesome models ever.

- Night Lords have this cool 80's Heavy Metal vampiric flavour.. beside their first Captain who is a might on his own, you can do an retro space vampire army.. uuuh so sweet!!

-World Eaters. Angron is IMO the best epic model FW has ever made. No other model is so dynamic and screams rage and bloody madness into your face!! Dual chainaxe, bloody red and bronze.. he is truly a lord of war!!

While Dark Angels look awesome when they are rather bare and knightly, GW has :cuss them up with to much angel stuff and wings.. GW simply doesn't know when to stop.. hope fw does them justice. Same goes for BA.. I mean.. wings?! Really?!

Waiting for the thousand sons.. propably the legion i'm most interested in after SoH. The egyptian style is just over the top of ancient coolness, especially the helmets! Hope their rules will reflect their character!

The only legion I will propably never develop any love for is space wolves. While their colours are cool, I can never take them serious again after they wore wolf helmets while riding on wolves.. come on.. that is just pure epic :cuss.. space vikings are one thing, :cussty helmets a different, but riding wolves as a space marines.. hell no. Never ever.

I'm with kizzdoug.

In a most dapper competition the glorious IIIrd always win. The other legions have mentioned several times how amazing the IIIrd look (citation needd). Though I believe the actual phrase is strutting peacocks.

No actual peacocks exist anymore. However the magos biologists believe it was a fierce bird of prey covered in striking patterns. Designed to strike fear in its prey.

Those Wolves don't exist in 30k, my man. Matter of fact, that was one of the three big things that turned me against 40k permanently. The VI Legion of the Great Crusade are reborn, thanks to Dan Abnett, and for the better, in my opinion. I have no fear that FW will make them amazing again as well.

Have faith, brother. Forgeworld's taken pretty good care of us so far. :)

I saw a display board done at last years HH weekender with Alpha Legion vs Mechanicum. It was glorious. Only drawback with that being it almost has to be airbrushed because painting it by hand is a nightmare of time consumption. Took me about 10 hours to do one model imperfectly (7 thin coats of clear blue on metallic base isn't pretty)
