Help with potential HH purchase.

Hi to all and sorry if a thread like this is in the wrong place.

As the title suggests I would like a little help with some purchases that i have planned next time I'm at Warhammer World (dont want to buy something thats totally wrong or useless game wise) , I'm wanting to start a HH Iron Warriors force but find myself a little out of my depth and the only information i have to hand is from HH book 3 which i bought a few days ago (great book by the way).

I think I'll start with all things shiny and give a short list of miniatures i like the look of, I think it just as important hobby wise to paint minis you like just as much as minis that would fit the fluff/background of a legion and also play well on the table top.

And so......

Large models.

Assault ram.

Fellblade.

Typhon.

Love these Models!

Troops.

Standard Marines.

Breacher squads.

Maybe one large unit of 20 marines and two units of 10 breachers to start with.

Elite.

Contemptor Dreads.

I'm thinking two of these, One with twin assault cannons the other plasma cannon and cc arm.

Other miniatures i like are Legion volkite culverin Devastators (sorry Dev's is 40k but you get the point), Deredeo Dreads, Legion Medusa and Rapier weapons platforms.

I'll also add that I own some Mechanicum miniatures but haven't painted yet........Magos Dominus, nine Thallax, three Vorax and one Thanatar Calix, I think these fit quite well into the Iron Warriors fluff, I also own Narik Dreygur FW event miniature.

So then I'm new to 30k and yeah it shows lol, It's more than a bit vague this but i suppose what I'm after is a little direction and ideas of how i could make this new project work with a view to playing some day, thanks for reading ;)

Thrasius,

I'm excited for you on this project, Iron Warriors is a sweet legion for sure.  Are you looking at getting all of this to start with?  If so holy smokes!  If you are just looking for a starter force I think you would be fine starting with a 10 man tac squad and 10 man breacher squad, maybe one contemptor and a HQ.  This would be plenty for most of us to start on, and would give you between 7 and 800 pints depending on your options.  You can always add more later, right?

I myself am looking at starting imperial fists, and can only afford one 10 many squad at a time.  I will be running breachers and phallanx warders as my troops with the stone fist RoW.

Good luck, look forward to see what you settle on.

Cheers,

Arch

Cheers man,

Well I''ve been limiting my good ladys shoe intake over the past few months  so I've got about a £500 war chest to go crazy with, I was looking to buy 20 breachers 20 Marines 2 dreads and the Typhon siege tank along with various Mk 3 pads, and maybe 5 Marines with Volkite Culverns but i see thats not an option with Iron Warriors RoW, could go Heavy bolters instead.

Congrats on your war chest- I'd definitely grab up the typhon with the IW as big tanks and templates look so nice on the table. Dread wise I'd grab the contemptor plas/cc and the deredero ac/ml as the twin kheres contemptor is sweet but the deredero does the AA job so much better.

I'd take a look at the quad launcher rapiers in lieu of the heavy support squads as the templates again are the bomb(literally) and as an IW player your precious heavy slots should be filled with treads :)

Thanks for the input and yeah those Quad Launchers look very tasty ;) got to tell you though I'm rather struggling with this whole 30k thing .........am i right in saying that the IW RoW list is the only IW list you can play with IW or can you just make your own up out of book one (which i found on the internet via pdf file) , I'm a little bit confused :( HELP!!

If I were you, I would probably go for either a Fellblade or two Typhons. Since you can only field one LoW in a standard force chart, I believe you can field two typhons as  single LoW entry. There must be rules about it in the first 3 books somewhere, unless it was later changed to something else. I would be tempted to just go for both of them, since the models are amazing and you can really go crazy with the painting and weathering effects and so on, but if you want to be able to start up a legal army with the cool things, then try to fit it to the force chart as much as you can first and then later on as you save up just add bits and alternatives and so on.

As for Tacticals, if you want to spend some time and save some money, go for normal plastic marines and just give them fluffy upgrades using FW's heads and shoulder pads. It means you may spend more time on converting them, but you will definitely save money and could spend more on the specialized stuff like contemptors, Heresy tanks and so on.

I wish I had that chest right now, I know exactly how I would spend it to start off my AL army lol

Have fun with it and will look forward to finding out what you ended up getting in the end!
