'The Rewards of Treason' related question.

Hello, fellow forum users.

'The Rewards of Treason' special rule from Alpha Legion's RoW 'The Coils of the Hydra' allows the user to use a single Legion specific unit from another Legion, and they retain 'the equipment and special rules that they would normally, however they have the Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) special rule where this is relevant, not the Legiones Astartes special rule of their parent Legion.'

Ok, so...

1. Salamander's Pyroclast Squad's 'Pyroclast Flame Projector' is Str 5* weapon, but it is affected by the 'Promethean Gift' special rule that comes from Legiones Astartes (Salamanders) special rule. Would it be Str 4 when used by Alpha Legion?

2. Ultramarine's Invictarus Suzerain Squad buffs nearby units with Legiones Astartes (Ultramarines) special rule. How would this be handled when Alpha Legion uses them?

1. I'd argue that the Flame Projector remains S5. Promethean Gift specifically calls out that the benefit applies to Flamers, Heavy Flamers and Hand Flamers. It does not mention the Flame Projector anywhere within its rules. I'd expect that the note under the Pyroclasts entry is to ensure that players aren't adding extra strength on top of the 5, rather than implying it should be S4 naturally.

2. Very simply, you don't have any units with Legiones Astartes (Ultramarines) within range. So as it stands the rule provides no benefit outside of team games. Which makes sense really; the Alpha Legion aren't going to be impressed by all that bling.

1. I'd agree here, although I could see it going either way. The odds are really good that if you e-mailed FW on this one they'd say to just talk it through with your gaming group and if it comes down to it, like if someone really doesn't like the idea of you getting S5 stolen projectors, just coin toss on it.

2. Also agree here. The Alpha Legion themselves aren't inspired in the same way the Ultramarines are, although any allied Solar Aux/Imperial Army will be "tricked" into being motivated by the presence of the false Invictarii. This is a pretty cool unit to steal even without Lords of Ultramar's full benefit.
