Order of representation

Recommended Posts

Imperial Fists & Death Guard are the most common Legions to see from my experience (and the Australian 30k scene is actually quite large). It's not unusual to go to a tournament and see that half of the Loyalists signed up are Imperial Fists tongue.png

Least represented would probably be Raven Guard. I've not seen a single RG force at any of the tournaments/campaigns I've attended

Ultras certainly have seen an upswing since Tempest (unsurprisingly).

Locally, we don't have duplicates of anything yet: Thus far we've got Iron Warriors, Raven Guard, Iron Hands, World Eaters and, yours truly, with Imperial Fists (and one guy waiting patiently for Thousand Sons).

In terms of broad observations, I haven't seen many Raven Guard or Death Guard, with probably the Sons of Horus also being relatively uncommon. Clear "winners" are Ultras, Imperial Fists, Emperor's Children and World Eaters insofar as I've seen.

What's really rare though is Imperial Army - Solar Auxilia are something I've not seen in any batreps and there's only a single WiP blog here (to double once mine arrive and I'm done travelling), and I've only seen one on Dakka when they first came out.

Ultras certainly have seen an upswing since Tempest (unsurprisingly).

You mean the Blue Plague?

Is there? Hmm.

Also, White Scars. One-Eye kinda has a monopoly on them right now, but my time's coming soon...

Yeah, I'm waiting for people to join in ! Especially when it's someone like you BCK, I can't wait for you to begin with WS smile.png

Oh, I got plans. They won't exactly be traditional V Legion; Hyenas lit a spark in my imagination for a different take on them and they will glorious and fearsome to behold.

Ultras certainly have seen an upswing since Tempest (unsurprisingly).

You mean the Blue Plague?

[dreadnought] *Mecahnical Pfft* You whipper-snappers with your Forge World resin pieces... Why in my day we had to whittle the armour marks out of metal *grumblegrumble* [/dreadnought] msn-wink.gif

As a nine-year Ultramarine veteran, I for one welcome the sudden upswing in Legion XIII numbers!

I'm looking forward a great deal to seeing your Scars, Kage. They're certainly a legion that's little seen (which suits the background, I guess), though when they are... Well, let's just say that they attract and reward talented artists. One-Eye's are a joy to behold, for example.

Other than the White Scars, I think Iron Warriors are relatively rare compared with the other Traitors, which surprises me.

I rarely play Age of Darkness games, as those few of my group who do play also have loyalists(!) – so I'm not sure our gaming group would offer useful representation. However, as a member of The First Expedition forum, which specialises in the period, I'd suggest that the Legions fall loosely into three categories – common, rare, and vanishingly rare.

Rare: Iron Warriors, Blood Angels, Salamanders

Vanishingly rare: White Scars

Common: Everyone else

Haven't seen too many of the Grey Legions out there.

Who are the Grey Legions?

Half Sallie and Half Mech?

Me personally, I would use the Sallies as my anti-infantry Via the Pyroclasts and then use the Mech for my anti-armor what with the Krios tanks and Castellax.

I'm really surprised people see a heavy mix of DG and low mix of RG.  There's some great early armies kicking around when you google up for Death Guard, but trying to get a tactica and chat on about them is like trying to prize the dust and rust out of a two thousand year old artifact ;)

But for the Raven Guard, since Beakie marines have been around for some time (even I could make an army list), it surprises me that there are not more people with RG 40k armies being used in 30k.

Is there? Hmm.

Also, White Scars. One-Eye kinda has a monopoly on them right now, but my time's coming soon...

Well I am mostly basing that on the casual hobby challenges so they could just be artificially over represented in my eye from that...

I too am planning to do White Scars when their stuff starts appearing. I'm being increasingly drawn to Salamanders of late too who seem pretty uncommon.

I think the White Scars, as with most Legions, will get a nice boost when they get their Book Representation and Models out.

For my sake, I keep planning on doing an "Inter Project" legion (EC/Sallies/Whatever) but I can't ever seem to get myself started seeing as I've already got White Scars, Thousand Sons And Blood Angels (not to mention Custodes and Sisters of Silence) being 100% "Go!" Projects when they get their Models and rules out.

As for the Imperial Fists being pretty dang popular yay, I'd attribute it to a combination of: Decent Rules, Awesome Characters (Sigismund and Polux are both really solid) and a large, Disenfranchised Black Templar player base coupled with not being 100% forced to paint things Yellow lent themselves very well to being picked up.

But thats just me.

Of the currently rules-having legions, I haven't seen many Salamanders for a while. Counting unreleased legions, it's even between both kinds of Angels and the Scars. Though the real answer would be the Grey Legions, but then again the game is (unfortunately?) called Horus Heresy, not Great Crusade.
