Quick question about Armour Marks

Recommended Posts

I recently started a Blood angels force and i have my mind set on giving them all legion specific shoulders, so far this hasent been a problem as im mixing and matching armor anyway until today where i hit a snag see i bought some MKVI and MKV, as you guys know they both have the "lumpy bits" which presents a problem because there left shoulders in all the pictures i can find are the lumpy ones and as you will also know thats where the chapter badge is usually displayed, so what do i do? Recon i can just stick the lumpy ones on the right and continue with my chapter badge shoulders on the left? Or am i violating some major decree or something by doing so?

The 'lumpy bits' being the studs? They're meant to strengthen it I think. Molecular bonding studs or something.

As for the original question, 30k stuff isn't as strict for things like iconography and stuff. There was a lot more freedom for personalisation, heraldry, etc. It's actually a big part of why I prefer 30k sm to 40k ones. Much more interesting.

I personally always put the legion symbol on the left because that's the side that predominately faces the enemy and let's them know who is spanking them. the right or back facing pauldrons I put whatever else on I want whether formation number or designator or personal heraldry but in the end it's you're models bro and the vastness of legions let's you get away with changing little details like that pretty easily

The studs might be for bonding in the fluff aspect, but the practical application is to help deflect bullets and melee weapon blows. It would be much harder to get a good penetrating hit with the studs than if it was simply a large, flat expanse of metal.
