HH Grav-Cannon?

Recommended Posts

With the Immenet Release of the New 7th ed SM Codex, and the ability to take Grav-Cannons in Tactical Squads raised a few questions in my Mind as related to HH.

HH

The Large Grav Cannons exist in HH, they are Rapier Mounted.

No Single Man Portable Versions exist.

Special Weapon Versions (Grav Gun) exist.

No Grav Pistols Exist.

In 40K

No Ability to take Grav Cannon Rapiers.

Heavy Weapon Version(Man Portable) Exists. Can be Taken by Centurions and Now Tact and Dev Squads.

Special Weapon Versions (Grav Gun) exist.

Pistol Versions Exist.

So something seems strange in that from a developmental stand point HH follows a logical minaturization pattern, in that smaller versions are constantly being developed, but a Heavy Man Portable version is missing, a gap in the Development Line.

The 40k timeline development now actually makes sense in that there exisit all avalable sizes, but not the largest and oldest version, due to tech loss.

So the real question here is, will a Heavy Weapon version be released?

From a Modeling Stand Point I like to use 30k in 40k games, how do I model a Heavy Weapon Version and keep the existing 30k Asthetic? Cut the front of the Rapier version off and add it to the back of the 40k version?

Thought? Insight?

Another issue is that there is not a lot of room inbetween the Rapier and special weapons to correctly stat-up a heavy version. The weapons share identical strengths and APs, differing in the range and area of damage. So while the range can easily be increased, it feels a little unimpressive for a weapon upgrade. However you cannot upgrade the blast size without trivialising the Rapier, and lowering AP or applying rerolls feels out of sync if the bigger version loses them..

The only obvious middle-ground is to fire multiple small blasts, thus covering an area inbetween the special and Rapier versions. But rapid fire Haywire is overly destructive to vehicles and again, makes the infantry-held version potentially much more desirable than the Rapier.

Also, bear in mind 40k 'Grav' is not the same thing as 30k 'Graviton', and they have different rules reflecting that. The only 40k-style grav weapon I'm aware of in 30k (unless Tempest added more) is the Mechanicum Grav Imploder, which is specifically mentioned as being a simpler, more brutal application of graviton technology.
