Permission to come aboard?

Recommended Posts

Long I have wished to join the heresy but I wanted to finish a small 40k force first, however.

GWs need to turn out a new SM codex every time I look up has rubbed me the wrong way.

So this is my plan. Keep my 40k kits and continue building them, but all future purchases will be FW.

The result will be a Scouring era force. Legion rules but in a more "40k ish" framework, with a mix of armor and gear.

This is what I have in 40k kits.

2 tactical squads 2x5 built 10 unbuilt

2 Devestator squads unbuilt

5 scouts bolters

5 vanguard vets unbuilt

Thunder fire cannon unbuilt

Techmarine

Chaplain

5 indomitus termites unbuilt

2 rhinos

My legion of choice is the Iron Tenth.

What say ye frater, may I board this ship o heresy?

The most important thing to keep in mind before hopping on the Heresy Train is that by default, most squads are larger than their 40k Equivalent; especially those that are compulsory troops selections.

Example: Tac Squad. 40k = 5 man minimum going up to 10. 30k = 10 Man minimum going up to 20. Same with Assault Marine Squads (troops, btw) and Breacher Squads.

Also, its very rare for a unit to have a lot of versatility within the squad in regards to gear Selections.

So, another Example: Tac Squad = Bolters Base, 1 Spec and/or Heavy weapon depending on size. 30k Tac Squad = everyone has bolters. Only the sarge can take different gear and even then its mostly CC options. Then we have Support and Heavy Support squads = Everyone takes the same special/heavy weapon, even the Sarge vs 40k where you can mix n' match.

Also, most upgrades are correspondingly cheaper: All Squad Sargeants with few-to-no exceptions have access to Artificer Armor for 2MB in Cost and Power Weapons for 2MB and a few other weapons for +/- around the same cost.

Av12 and lower is pretty dang rare mostly since things like Land Raiders can be made immune to the Melta USR for a relatively small fee thus making them more attractive Choices.

Most Legions Lists you'll come across can look very similar since the core unit selections are the same but each can play VERY differently depending on Legion Astartes Rules and Possible Rite of War selections.

So, if you can wrap your head around the differences and make it work without getting disheartened, Welcome aboard! Just remember:

The Iron Tenth you say?

Raise your shield arm, submit its flesh in fealty and receive the unyielding iron which binds the Tenth as one.

Welcome to the fold - welcome to The Age of Darkness.
