Sigismund

Fire Golem

Sigismund is up for pre order today. I was hoping for Guilliman (or both) but never mind. Still not sold on the model. The detail is lovely but I'm not struck on the pose and the head definitely needs changing.

I think the pose is fine personally, definitely conveys the vibe of the master swordsman pretty well, much like Sevatar's model without the need to go all out swinging like Abaddon or Khârn. I even think the head is alright although I'd have liked the helmeted option from the Templar cover as well, but that's fairly easy to sort out with the IF helm set.

But Jesus Christ £45....can only think it's the Sicaran on the base jacking that up

I was considering picking him to paint in his black Siege of Terra armour but not sure now. Not a massive fan of the model tbh.

Like I said when the first pics of him came out, if you straightened out his arm so the sword was pointing down and away, it would improve the pose a lot.

The pose and movement do look off. The way the tabbard is flowing you would think he was in mid combat, but the sword anf free hand suggest that he is still about to initiat combat. The changes you suggest may give him more movement which would help massively. I think on of the IF templar helms would look good on him to.

The price they're asking for him is disgusting. I'm getting more riled up about it now that's sunk in. NO other captain costs that much, and there's at least two others with as big scenic bases (Sevatar and Typhon) and they like all other captains are £31. Add to the fact that you need spend an extorbitant ammount for a single squad of Templar Brethren (£22 upgrade set that NEEDS to be combined with a despoiler set for an additional £33 for just five guys...) It feels like they're really skinning any would be IF Templar players down to the bone... I am not pleased.

There are so many lovely details on this model, but it just doesn't hang together correctly for me.

The face, for example, is great – reminds me a bit of John McClane! – but the laurels sit just low enough to give the head a bulbous appearance. The shoulder pads are great, if busy, as is the backpack. The hands are masterful – beautifully observed and sculpted.

Similarly, the upper part of the torso is fantastic; lovely details, great posing on the arms, some sensitive sculpting work on the fingers. Unfortunately, the fabric of his tabard is pinched around a too-low belt and the Mark II hoops on the thighs foreshorten an already heroic-scale leg. This all adds up to make the abdomen look too long in comparison.

This is exacerbated by the pose of the legs, which look awkward. The tabard is causing most of these problems – from the front, the flow of the tabard draws the eye away from the focal point of the figure (the triangle between the eyes, outstretched hand and sword tip), and obscures the thigh of his trailing leg. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact the leg is already at an unusual angle, and thus appears oddly proportioned.

The back view looks much better. The belt is still too low, in my opinion, but the upper tabard is obscured so your eye isn't drawn away:

In short, I think the tabard and lower half ruin what could have been a great model. For the regular £31 character price, it may have been worth buying for the fantastic upper part and base, but £45 is a lot to pay for something you'd be converting :s

Sigh, and just after pre-ordering my Limited ed C:SM. looks like its going to be a birthday gift to myself at a later date...

Oh well, cant say im displeased: just need Dorn and the IF would have all its characters and special units represented (if absurdly expensive - even more so than regular Forgeworld).

Were money no object, this is what I'd go for:

Sigismund.jpg

Looks neat, but isn't Polux much larger than a normal marine?

Fluffwise - yes. Actualy model wise? Not by that much. Doesnt help that the way hes standing makes it a bit hard to conclude.

While this is a baller kitbash, Sigismunds arms, shoulder, torso and lets are all one piece. I dont think I'd be able to cut up that much Expensive Resin @_@
