A bit confused about transports

Im a bit confused about the Rhino and Drop pods entries on the army list. Can they be bougth apart? (and by this i mean as troop choice slot in the FOC)
Mostly my confusion is because of the fact that the Legion Drop-Pod clarifies it can carry 10 models, a dreadnough or rapier carrier even though they are not a choice as a dedicated transport without the orbital assault rite of war (And even WITH that rite of war the rapier can't one).

So basically, can i buy Rhinos and Drop-Pods as Non-Dedicated transports (Hence "Empty" and consuming a FOC slot)?

Look at the Battlefield Role in the corner of the entry. Cross reference that with the FoC.

How many Dedicated Transport slots are there on the FoC? 0. So no. The only way you may purchase them is through them being a dedicated transport for a unit in which case they count as the same slot as that of their unit they were bought for.

Hesh nailed it. Unfortunately no, you cannot purchase them separately. They are only available in the LACAL as Dedicated Transports. They are technically an upgrade for the unit you are purchasing, not a choice in their own right, ie. Tactical Marines can choose a Rhino if they number 10 models, which means said Rhino is a Troops choice too. Likewise, Seekers can also take a Rhino, but it will be a Fast Attack choice.

So, why does the drop pod entry say that it can carry a rapier carrier but nowhere on the rapier carrier entry (noor any rite of war say) allow it? How would you manage that situation?

Rites of War can give units more dedicated transport options. In the case of Rapiers, the Orbital Assault RoW allows them to take drop pods.
