The Unyielding Legion

Evening.

After spending a few days discussing with friends and some threads on here which Leigon to take i have decided on the Imperial Fists.

They have been a Legion i have loved in 40k for a long time, and am really looking forward to bringing to the Tabletop.

i am a competetive player, as in a usually play to win, but never at all costs, i will always play a fluffy list and just try my best with it.

So, one of the lures of playing the VIIth Legion, is to completely play a defensive lock-down list. So in my head its Fortifications, with Heavy Teams in there. Some support Rapier batteries and Artillery back up. Units of Phalanx Warders and Breachers on the Objectives and holding them for days. Polux leading some badasses on a tour. Tarantula turrets making lanes of Fire. Maybe a Knight and DEFINITELY Mechanicum allies to back that up.

Im loving the mix of a Seige of Terra theme *As i love the idea of my deployment being setting up a defensive fortified position* and also the Retribution Fleet as Polux is pretty much the King of the Mountain at the moment.

So this Thread, hopefully, will turn into my WiP for my VIIth army when FW orders are placed at the end of the month. So i will share my painting, conversions and my battle reports if thats ok with you guys!

But before then, i have a few questions for the experienced generals out there.

How are some of you Fists players modellign Vigil Pattern Storm Shields for Termies, i am thinking literally just FW Black Templar Shields?

Also the same for Solartite Power Gauntlets, as im thinking just Power Gauntlets wrapped in cracking energy or something?

Does anyone have any tips and hints for painting the Fists? And weathering? I love the richer deeper yellow like my Avatar pic rather than the bright banana yellow of GW

Does anyone have any unit combo's, ides of units that would be cool?

Im planning on building Units, one at a time, from a generic Army List, rather than buying it all together and getting lost under it. First Unit i plan to build is a 10 man Phalanx Warder Unit and Polux Which i cannot wait to get hold of.

Cannot wait to get my teeth stuck into this.

I do plan, in the future, to grab Sigismund and some Templar in a Spartan as my Hammer, but i will let the hype go down around him first.

Anyone have any tips or ideas i can shamelessly rip off?

Comes to like 2250 points. Any clue how to get that to 2500, im thinking some more Armour?

Thoughts?

Have also got an email repsonse from FW regarding their FW IF Paint Scheme, so thats awesome sauce.

Oh i saw it on some Lexicanum Site as an Attributed title for them, maybe a Dorn Quote? I forget where it came from.

I nearly did go Death Guard as i play Nurgle Marines in 40k but i cant take how one dimensional they are in 30k, and Deathshroud are the only HH models that manage to look dated already.

Anyone got any thoughts about what units to bring this to 2500? Maybe a Fortification?

Ok so my FW has shipped and should be here soon. Which is exceptional news :D means I can get some WiPs up soon for you guys to scrutinise.

But as a side note, what do you guys think of some of the 40k range of marines being used as 30k. To soften the cost factor.

I'm a bit loath to do it as I think it should all be as fluffy as possible but MK4 Phalanx Warders are easier to emulate than Mk2.

Also, I have made a list using Stone Gauntlet and it comprises two 10 man squads of PW in LR's, each with an apothecary and one with Polux.

Some people have said that in a defensive list such as mine that the LR are a waste and better spend on smaller units to cap objectives and let my Warders be on the counter charge.

What say you?

Also reading up on the Imperial Fists tactics the other day, and chatting to my local gaming group, for the purposes of a campaign they are willing to let Polux Deepstrike with the Rite of War, as that seems that's what they meant to/ should have done.

So that seems to be decision made, drop the LR's, but then behind the walls and keep them as home field objective campers, then spend the points of some termies or something to DS in with Polix and the rest on maybe more Armour?
