I seem to dimly recall a reference to knights being sent on permanent secondment to titan legions, and therefore repainting their machines in the colours of the legio rather than use the schemes of their household, but I can't find it in either the Codex or the Companion. Am I misremembering something here, or is there in fact such a reference (I just can't see the forest for all the trees)?

It's in the section headed "Mechanicus Knights at War"

To honour minor requests, a knightly house might send a single Knight, one of the honoured Barons and an escort of his knightly vassals or perhaps a lance made up of Knights selected for the task in question. Occasionally, the Adeptus Mechanicus will decree that such seconded detachments must remain with a Titan Legion permanently; in these cases, the Nobles change their vows of allegiance and heraldry to reflect the legion they now serve.

The text in the old codex was almost the same, but added:

…and will be given an honorific title by the master of the legion to better reflect their new status.

I knew it! Clearly my eyesight is failing.

Cheers! Much appreciated.

Time to paint that Knight in the colours of the Warmongers, then.

it's still funny that we never got an official artwork for that case (neither from GW or FW ....)

Maybe in an Imperial Armour: Adeptus Mechanicus covering Taghmata in 40k, the FW Knight variants, etc.

That would be very nice. And would sell like something shiny at a magpie convention.

The companion does have a knight that had served with a legion for some time (the cockatrices i think) and so retained the legions emblem on one shoulder.
