Why I Want to Field: Strike Force Ultra

Nice lists.

Am I right in thinking that the 1st company strike force allows reserve rolls from T1? I gathered that from your post.

In that case, maybe consider Karlaen from Deathstorm. Terminator captain, guaranteed warlord trait of reroll failed reserve rolls and +1 seize. Combine him with either 5 scouts or cassor the damned to go in a raven, and youre golden.

He also grants counterattack to his unit, and means you can have him as warlord and not have to orry about the beatstick captain dying.

Alternatively, a sanguinary priest will let a unit have feel no pain.

Wow, Burning Blade and Shield Eternal really is beefy.

Alongside a Librarian Conclave, you can make him all but unkillable with Biomancy. I like the idea of giving him his wounds back msn-wink.gif

I know it's expensive, but even since the last codex I have been addicted to this combo. At first I ran into it as an experiment... *everyone* came after my Centurions, so I plopped him in it, with majority toughness 5, and he's a wrecking ball at initiative, and hard to kill... his kill count of deathstars is really strong.

Okay, back to the topic... I want to say it's time to try something other than LibCon with all my lists. For SFU, I have to confess, I may be having trouble getting them working because of the lack of models.

So right now, I got my Captain w/Burning Blade + Primarch's Wrath? (If he deepstrikes with termies, I think he gets 6 Shred Primarch Wrath shots?) OR, I ditch it for the Shield Eternal.

But this is what I came up with to compliment the SFU:

CAD: Telion + 2 x 5 Sniper Scouts + 1 Scout Speeder (Just to prevent Deepstrikers) + 2 Teleport homers. 1 Aegis + Comms.

This compliment to the standard SFU I have set up might be the most logical. Would more termies be funner?... probably, but in a more competitive game this gives me 2 ObSec, plus re-rolls on the reserves starting in turn 1. (I found it's impossible to get Tiggy helping out in this regard... so this might be the least exciting variant, but makes sense to me.

Nice lists.

- No actually 1st Co is just using standard reserves. It can use Vanguard, sternguard, Termies, etc. It's just something I was looking at it to give my self an alternative way to field a ton of terminators, but not be forced to take: ven dread/Landraider/Stormraven etc.

To use doctrines effectively, all units have to be of Ultramarines chapter tactics or that squad gets none. So I'm perhaps limiting myself, but I prefer to stay pure Ultra! ;)

I had to break away from the fun that is Strike Force Ultra....

I wanted to keep using terminators in larger numbers than you'd normally see so in order to do this, I finally dumped my beloved LibCon to take on the 1st Co formation in the form of 1 assault squad of termies, and 2 tactical squads of termies.

This worked actually... I REALLY hate to say this, but probably better/more competitive than SFU??

I hate to say it because SFU is very 'fluffly' feeling with an array of models I typically love to field, but the restrictions make for a very mono-chromatic build because even at 1850 there is VERY little tweak room in the list.

That being said I still love the feel of the SFU, and I had one new tweak on it I wanted to try out:

1. Scouts with TP homers. In the form of a 10th Co, this gets them 2+ ruin saves, without Telion for points savings. BUT.... no ObSec which sucks.

2. Scouts CAD old school: Telion is HQ, 2 x 5 Sniper scouts, and a Scout Speeder for anti-deepsrtrike threats. TP homers on the snipers. So they don't get 'conceal', but they do get ObSec.

But I wanted to just update that the 1st Co combined with the Demi-Co creates a Gladius, so I thought it would be worth trying.

The biggest changes I can note about playing both of these builds is:

- USF is far more resrtictive.

- USF features extra shots, and attacks on the way on the board. (very cool for Cyclones/Primarch's wrath/stormbolter squads/ Claws/etc)

- 1st Co features Fear/Fearless and one unit in the opponent's army is marked as the Preferred Enemy. (That's right, your entire 1st Co only targets 1 enemy unit in total.) So far the preferred enemy with your Doctrines feels pretty lackluster.

- Although my angel is termies, the reality is 1st co opens up to more than 3-5 termie squads, and you can opt in some Stern/vanguard.
