Arms resting on sword

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I'd like to build a small diorama for a painting competition that involves a kneeling marine praying to the emperor or something. The pose I have in mind is quite generic, something like this:

Does anyone have an idea how I could realise the arms without too much modelling? smile.png Even 1 arm resting on the sword would already be good enough I think.

Too much modelling...

There are plenty of 90 degree 'bent arm' bits. Try pistol arms especially. Cut off the pistol hand at the wrist. Glue on an empty hand (sergeant pointing etc). Can't mention any sprue in particular.

Empty shooty hands from tac marines for weapon of choice.

Inquisitor Karamazov, one of the chapter masters (guy with powersword and powerfist holding his helmet) and the Dark Angels Termie kit have a sword with at least one arm on the handle of their sword.

Not sure of comfortable you are with sculpting but since the fingers lay flat on something sculpting the hands would essentially boil down to putting the putty on the handle, flatten it to the right thickness, cut a rectangular shape, taking off the excess and scoring the individual fingers into the GS.

Failing that I'd use something like the arm of a standard bearer and just cut the staff so you can use it as handle for whatever weapon you want to use.

ive had good results on this type of pose using a tight angle right arm/hand with pistol/bolter and a left arm/hand for holding a bolter. trimming away the pistol/bolter and a bit of adjustment for both wrists and you can get pretty close to that pose. at least convincingly close. add in the kneeling legs from the dev sprue and youre right there with a kneeling marine. for the sword, well, any sword will work into this method, just need to trim the pommel and blade from around the hand, then reglue to the new posed piece (but that much is obvious). one thing i can recomend is to experiment with the strict 90 degree right arm and one that is slightly more than 90. sometimes the slightly more open works better....the last one i did like this i also had to cut just above the elbow on the right arm to turn the forearm slightly more into the chest space...thus making the wider angle at the elbow more useful as it gave more room to center on the chest/head for the pose.

brother @ShVagYer has a dark angels version like the one in your picture.

first post in this thread, one of the last pics...

...for inspiration if not bitz help.

Thanks for noticing! I used a vehicle gunner arm. No greenstuff was used on this mini. :)
