Remus Ventanus.
Just curious to see what everyones favorite legion actually is. If you have seen me post (or even look at my name ) then you will know i am part of the XIIIth. Also, as a side note, I must say i LOVE the respect you guys give for the ultramarines (30k) In every single other forum (i you not) people have always hated on the Ultramarines to look cool and be funny, but here, you guys actually seem to ask people not to bring them down, which I appreciate alot! also, special thanks to fire golem and LetsYouDown for sending me pictures of Mk II marines with praetor helms! Lets just say they looked amazing and now I got them ordered! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309608-your-legion/ Share on other sites
Ascanius
The funny thing is that, as I work my way through the game books and listen to the audiobooks, I find things to love about all of the Legions. I never thought I'd care that much about the Death Guard before The Flight of the Eisenstein, but Garro and the other point of view characters sold me on their fortitude. However, the easiest answer is the Iron Tenth, closely followed by the Thousand Sons. GhostMalone
Unfortunately for me it's the 3rd Legion deep down followed by the 12th. Fulgrim was the best book IMO & the opening trilogy plus that book were the reason I was drawn to 30k hard to believe that was nearly a decade ago Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309608-your-legion/#findComment-4092991 Share on other sites
1ncarnadine
It'll always be the Death Guard for me. Something about their grim determination to succeed and their "ends justify the means" attitude consistently draws me back. I really love the story in HH1 where the Death Guard come in to liberate a world, but when they're done the population is just as terrified of them as their previous overlords. They just kind of go "Congratulations, you're free!," as the ravaged populace is left with an irradiated wasteland. The way Mortarion is depicted with this paranoid, controlling nature interests me a lot too. He's made the wrong choice and the walls are closing in around him, eventually leading him to an utterly despair-induced fall where he makes the choice to become what he's always hated. Daemonology was pretty decent and gives me hope this'll be handled with at least a little grace. Honorable mentions go to the Iron Hands for a lot of the same reasons as the DG, the Word Bearers for having an amazing line from FW and being really fun to play, and the Sons of Horus for their savage, angular aesthetic and that lovely sea green. Remus Ventanus.
I agree that most legions are likeable. Honorable mentions to Luna wolves, thousand sons, and death guard. Ezeriel
Dusk Raiders/Death Guard and the Vlka Fenryka are my favorites. I can find something in every legion that I like and enjoy, except for the Word Bearers. I hate them with a unholy passion. Sol_Invictus
It's always been the EC and the IH for me followed closely by the WS and the BA. Reading the BL fiction has given me a greater appreciation of the WB and the IW as well. Schultzhoffen
The XIII th The VI th The XIV th The IX th In that order. I find the XVII (Word Bearer's) loathsome. The XX th are also fairly trying. heshman
Word Bearers, thought that's mostly for aesthetic reasons as well as my personal propensity to want to play the bad guys. Specifically I like the Argel Tal character and the goal of seeking the truth....though many other parts of the legion are repulsive. From the forums around here I've come to like the Imperial Fists, really appreciating their desire to get :cuss done in the most practical manner, with less of the over the top nobility of the Ultramarines (though HH books on the UM certainly improve their image). Somerandomidiot
Gotta be the Thousand Sons. Nothing comes near them, between the awesome characters (Ahriman is probably the coolest character in the heresy, Argel Tal a close second), the awesome Egyptian style, and the great way they've been portrayed. I'm not as much a fan of Magnus, but as far as the legionaries go, the Thousand Sons take it away. Raktra
I would be doing a disservice to most of my online presence if I didn't say Iron Hands. So many ways to :cuss people up with space Robocops. Took some willpower not to say the Berserkers, though :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309608-your-legion/#findComment-4093068 Share on other sites

Prodigal Son of Magnus
The Thousand Sons are the favorite for me. I've always enjoyed their character of the warrior-intellectual, their history and aesthetic and I love the way they are described to fight. Moving in from orbit in preordained flight patterns that divine where the next AA she'll will be and dodge accordingly, slaying scores of enemies with not only bolter and chainsword but also the power of the warp, and crafting perfect battle plans with precognition the equal of any legion. They also have excellent characters and a Primarch who was not only a warrior, but a scholar who was smart enough to know when he had been played. - Second favorite is Sons of Horus. I really like their culture, the way they all had a tribal, yet sophisticated, society amongst themselves. They had the barbarity and prowess equal of the Space Wolves but the tactical acumen of the Dark Angels. They rose to heights above all others and plunged the Galaxy into war, something no other could have achieved. - 3rd favorite is the Word Bearers. They possessed the zeal equal to any Ecclesiarch bur back up their faith with deeds and in doing so they are rewarded with unimaginable power. Scribe
The Word Bearers. They brought truth, horrible, screaming, maddening truth, to a universe full of tyranny and forced ignorance. Brother-Chaplain Kage
I think all of them, pre-Primarch discovery, are the stuff of legends that will never be topped. Personally, I've become enamored with the VIII before the discovery of Nostramo and their poisonous ilk, but I really like the way the loyalist Death Guard and Sons of Horus are portrayed. Kriegriss
All hail the Glorious VII we have SIGISMUND and Polux is no flake either. When the legions got together on terra to decide who was the best legion I'm pretty sure they all agreed it was them yellow boys for sure. In fact the emperor was so confident after seeing SIGISMUND spank so much tail he just went to take a nap and was like "You got this bro...peace" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309608-your-legion/#findComment-4093145 Share on other sites

DuskRaider
I love the Death Guard. They were my first 40K army (obviously Chaos). When FW released the HH supplement, at first I was bound and determined to do any Legion but Death Guard, but they reeled me in. Their Pre-Heresy history both as the Dusk Raiders (Albia being the only enemy the Emperor was forced to ally with instead of simply conquer), or post-Mortarion's discovery, they embodied a relentlessness that has to be admired. Championing for the weak, feeling no fear in the face of certain Death, and having the conviction to finish the fight, even if it meant damning themselves via the use of otherwise banned weaponry. It makes their fall that much more tragic. Runners up are VIII, XVI, and XX. I am really itching to start a Night Lords force, even if it's small. Sons of Horus would be perfect for an allied contingent for my XIVth (as they're the only Battle Brothers), and that narrative gives good modeling ideas. Alpha Legion simply because I love the idea of black ops Astartes, and they have one of the most compelling storylines in the HH. Fire Golem
The only legion I don't like now is the Dark Angels, and I'm sure when FW get round to doing them I'll end up liking them as much as all the others. I've seriously considered doing every other legion, including ones that never interested me at all before like the Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, Salamanders, Death Guard. Oh I don't like the Emperors Children either but I really like the way they look, enough to balance it out. Hyaenidae
Denial of Godhood? Denial of Humanities only path to Ascension? Down that dark path of ignorance is only stagnation and defeat. Let my Volkite illuminate you brother. You claim to worship beings that represent chaos and disorder. These beings have evenly divided their power, ordered their ranks into tiers, hold power in mathematical numerology, and designate basic level promotion through manifestation of naturally occurring psychic powers. This is logic. This is order. This is the opposite of everything you claim to be devouted to. Your 'Gods' are a lie, and you are deceived. Turn away. Heed the Imperial Truth.
