Your legion

Remember, brother, some of those 'traitors' fight for the Emperor, or at the least the good of humanity, despite their colors.

Your emperor is weak your imperium cannot last only through fear can control be maintained. Those of you who stay loyal to that fool are weak and deserve nothing less than to be forced to watch me rip their battle brothers hearts out and devour it.

The Emperor is weak.

The genesis of all mankind poured into one living frame. The uniter of Terra. The reborn Omnissiah. The conqueror of the galaxy. A man whose psychic might is so vast that entire worlds are blinded by his visit, and it's echo can be felt across the entire human sphere.

The guy who snuffed out Horus's life force by blinking, when he finally decided to stop dinking around.

Yeah. The Emperor is weak.

Yeah. The Emperor is weak.

He is indeed weak he had no problem with our fathers methods before the dog dorn thought our Lord was out of control. I will show those cowardly fists the true meaning of Terror. AVE DOMINUS NOX

He's not weak. He is a Tyrant, a Liar, the Great Deceiver, and the true betrayer of humanity.

The entire Great Crusade was built upon a foundation of lies, deception and overwhelmingly superior force. Look at how quickly your precious 'ideals' are abandoned once the going gets tough and you must face a worthy foe?

I have a permenant 'Open-Door' policy, especially when it comes to fluff debates. PM me whenever.

I hope this shows, though, that there are dozens of new ways we can see each Legion in a new light, and all it takes to explore some of these amazing ideas is to simply apply yourself towards creative lunacy. Take risks, like VI Legion warriors who live for the void. Or XVII Legion warriors, fighting a religious guerrilla war for the God-Emperor. Or a I Legion company that holds to their ancient Terran roots of their Knight-Captain, bearing the strange long-bladed claymores and patterned cloth of a long-dead warrior culture. A III Legion Palatine Blade, who refuses to fall to madness and self-gratification. A XIII Legion company that was forced to learn the lessons of fear and control during compliance with the VIII, and now apply these ethics to their warmaking.

No limits, but the ones you create in your own mind.

Y'know...At this point, I'm starting to wonder why you dont make a big, comprehensive "READ THIS BEFORE JOINING 30k!" Post that goes over this very idea...

The amount of traitors here is....concerning!

Also bear in mind the Traitors have got much more love thus far, especially from the sainted FW. We're at a point where 8 of 9 Traitor Legions have had their FW attention (with some getting even more), whereas the loyalists have only just past the halfway point, with 3 of the Legions with the largest fanbases (I, VI and IX) still stuck out in the cold. So it's unsurprising that there's currently something of a Traitor bias. Just wait Warborn, the Rout, Angels and Primus will be there when the Lord Bligh commands. And hell's coming with us msn-wink.gif .

The Xth Legion; The Iron Hands; The Storm Walkers; The Iron Tenth; The Bitter Tide; The Remorseless Host; Sons of the Gorgon; The Medusan Scourge; The Unmakers

The mightiest foes of the Imperium were but ashes 'neath our tread - we rent apart all which opposed the Great Crusade, for an Empire we would never see, an Imperium which held no place for us.

We were conquerors, nothing more, nothing less.

We were Death, and Iron.

The Dauntless Few are my personal favorites, those the aesthetics of the Heresy Dark Angels appeals to my love of all things knightly. I'm in love with my loyalist EC Millennial and traitor Raven Guard predation fleet.

I'm not much for the Night Lords, Thousand Sons, or Alpha Legion for the sole reason I can't write a good army background for them.

Something that I found helps with the process? Imagine that, right freakin' now, you are forcibly implanted with the gene-seed of the Legion you are going to write about. Blend who you are, with what they are. Make it your own, if you will.

Who would you be, what kind of a commander would you make, if you found yourself, tomorrow, as the Praetor of a Chapter/Company/whatev's of that Legion? For example, what kind of a mystical take would you use to approach Magnus's teachings, based on your history and personal culture? If you are Terran-born, you may have come from an entirely different understanding of the psychic/mystical arts, which would become amplified as the XV Gene-seed began to imprint on you. This means, potentially, that the Gyptian look within your own, personal unit may be dramatically lessened, as you teach your men your ancestral path to the ethereal plane.

How would your Company look if you followed the lessons of the ancient tribes of Nord Merica? What about one of the oceanic plains tribes, similar to the Xeric of the XIX? How about a Transhuman who has balanced his close quarters nature with the fighting artforms of the near-extinct Shaolin?

Yo, if you do update the Legion For You thread's first post or make a new "read this" sticky like Slipstreams suggested you best include this :P

You can expand this to non-Terran planets too. The populations of whole planets can be pretty diverse, even if there is still an overall planetary culture (such as "Cthonian" or "Chogorian"). A lot of the home worlds aren't described in great detail but that leaves you some room too, as most planets will follow a general logic such as having a more temperate equator and colder poles, etc (even Fenris). There are bound to be cultural class differences too. One example is in the Night Lords trilogy, where some of the characters came from different Nostraman castes (nobles, commoners, etc) that influenced the characters slightly, even beyond indoctrination. You can erase the memories pre-Legionary but some things leave permanent marks on the psyche.

Does anyone think there is a "Generic" Legion? I personally dont as they all have unique flavor to them

It depends, because for something to be generic there has to be a group or standard for it to be compared to and then fit with. I think there is such a thing as a generic Imperial aesthetic, with the Raptoris Imperialis, lightning bolts, the helmet crests, etc that tends to belong to Terran legionaries or those Legions most devoted to the ideals of the Great Crusade. But beyond something superficial like appearance it gets tougher.

tl;dr: Not really, I don't think so.

I think you can make an argument for any legion haveing "standard" legionaries all it takes is a Terran(or not) officer and his command in an expeditionary fleet that has been out of contact with its parent legion since before there primarch/home world is discovered and blamo Terran standard legion. Add legion (or not legion specific) flavor to taste if you want a raven guard siege breaker force that has been seconded to a world eaters expeditionary fleet for a hundred years biuld it and add all the crazy world eater flavor to you're black beaky marines you want that's what is great about 30k there are giudelines for stuff but no hard and fast rules that "have" to apply
