Quixus
I was just wondering, now that we can field regular sergeants, do you magnetize the helmets to have the option of using them as regular or veteran sergeant, or do you not give them any helmet at all? Jorre
I usually run bare heads so that i can use them in tactical assault or dev squads... That way colour of head doesnt matter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4093262 Share on other sites
Brother_Angelus
Helmet colour/markings don't change for our sergeants/veteran sergeants. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4093265 Share on other sites
Bukimimaru
I thought our vets had gold helmets? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4093284 Share on other sites
Brother_Angelus
1st company do, but I can't say I've seen other disciplines without their usual red/yellow/blue. CaptainHelion
I run all my sergeants as veterans, always. Why would my squad be lead by some pleb-marine :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4093319 Share on other sites
Bukimimaru
I've never even considered paying the upgrade price. I dont have my codex to hand, what benifits does taking a vet over a normal sgt have, and is the points cost worth it? CaptainHelion
An extra attack and +1 leadership, I believe. Whether it's worth it or not is a case for a RATHER long thread, but I do it purely for the fluff. Bukimimaru
So a Tactical Vet Sgt with a bolt pistol and powersword gets 4 attacks on the charge and Ld9... Hmmm. Quixus
1st company do, but I can't say I've seen other disciplines without their usual red/yellow/blue. Well the thing is I have not found a picture of a helmeted veteran sergeant in the current codex. However the book does say that veterans have golden helmets, Whether that would include veteran sergeants is anyone's guess. So a Tactical Vet Sgt with a bolt pistol and powersword gets 4 attacks on the charge and Ld9... Hmmm. Yup. Urauloth
Magged helmets is a really easy thing to do provided your mini is posed so as to have a flat horizontal traverse on the head/neck join. I do it myself for my CSM champions where I want to magnetise them with weapon loadouts that require them to look different ways (right-hand aimed pistol or left-hand pointing power fist, for example) There's a method involving a small washer that allows for tilted head poses to be magnetised iirc, but I can't remember where I saw that and I have no experience with it, so I'll leave that to someone else. As for veteran sergeants wearing gold hats, I'd assume there's an equally strong case to be made either way for them using their squad colour or their veteran colour. I assumed that was one on the 7E codex cover, but there's a number of other things he could be instead. It's possible GW refuses to assemble sergeants with helmets on specifically because they don't want to answer this question. Charlo
So a Tactical Vet Sgt with a bolt pistol and powersword gets 4 attacks on the charge and Ld9... Hmmm. Back in the day it used to be the only way to put wargear on the sergeant. BA make a good case for it, especially with a flamer/ heavy flamer squad. We can flame, grenade, shoot bolt pistols and then charge with 2 S5 attacks each at I5 and then 3/4 more with AP3. Very versatile and very much our niche :) And unless you're going against a mad combat unit (which you shouldn't) the sarge should do some damage before retaliation. If vets had 2W it'd be instant for me, but sadly our most experienced Marines only learnt to swing and extra time and shout louder... (semi off topic grumble: if I had my way vets would be 2W, or at least the sergeants, it's a shame our specialised HQs are the ones to of get 2W, and even of those they should have a 3w option that's not a special character... But I digress.) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4094870 Share on other sites
CaptainHelion
I run power weapons on practically all my Sergeants for that very reason. It makes everything very flexible. Expensive, of course, but flexible. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309622-magnetized-helmets/#findComment-4095875 Share on other sites
Xenith
(semi off topic grumble: if I had my way vets would be 2W, or at least the sergeants, That's a great idea! It would immediately solve issues with terminators. Libbies and Sang Priests would essentially be veterans with a specialism. I think vet sergeants and Sanguinary Guard should be. We should also have Reclusiarches back as DA get 3W interrogators... Charlo
Actually, looking at this again, Aren't Nobz 2W? I know they're meant to be big threats and just a level below Warboss, but Vet Sergeants/ Super elite Marines should be at least equivalent... Lucumon
I thought the way you designated a veteran sergeant was by the coloring of the shoulder pads? A red shoulder pad with black trim (at least in 2nd IIRC), was a normal marine... but a black shoulder pad with red trim was a veteran sergeant?
