Magnetized Helmets

1st company do, but I can't say I've seen other disciplines without their usual red/yellow/blue.

Well the thing is I have not found a picture of a helmeted veteran sergeant in the  current codex. However the book does say that veterans have golden helmets, Whether that would include veteran sergeants is anyone's guess.

So a Tactical Vet Sgt with a bolt pistol and powersword gets 4 attacks on the charge and Ld9... Hmmm.

Yup.

Magged helmets is a really easy thing to do provided your mini is posed so as to have a flat horizontal traverse on the head/neck join. I do it myself for my CSM champions where I want to magnetise them with weapon loadouts that require them to look different ways (right-hand aimed pistol or left-hand pointing power fist, for example)

There's a method involving a small washer that allows for tilted head poses to be magnetised iirc, but I can't remember where I saw that and I have no experience with it, so I'll leave that to someone else.

As for veteran sergeants wearing gold hats, I'd assume there's an equally strong case to be made either way for them using their squad colour or their veteran colour. I assumed that was one on the 7E codex cover, but there's a number of other things he could be instead. It's possible GW refuses to assemble sergeants with helmets on specifically because they don't want to answer this question.

Back in the day it used to be the only way to put wargear on the sergeant.

BA make a good case for it, especially with a flamer/ heavy flamer squad. We can flame, grenade, shoot bolt pistols and then charge with 2 S5 attacks each at I5 and then 3/4 more with AP3.

Very versatile and very much our niche :)

And unless you're going against a mad combat unit (which you shouldn't) the sarge should do some damage before retaliation.

If vets had 2W it'd be instant for me, but sadly our most experienced Marines only learnt to swing and extra time and shout louder...

(semi off topic grumble: if I had my way vets would be 2W, or at least the sergeants, it's a shame our specialised HQs are the ones to of get 2W, and even of those they should have a 3w option that's not a special character... But I digress.)

That's a great idea! It would immediately solve issues with terminators. Libbies and Sang Priests would essentially be veterans with a specialism.

Aye, it would solve a lot. I think vet sergeants and Sanguinary Guard should be. We should also have Reclusiarches back as DA get 3W interrogators...

I thought the way you designated a veteran sergeant was by the coloring of the shoulder pads?  A red shoulder pad with black trim (at least in 2nd IIRC), was a normal marine... but a black shoulder pad with red trim was a veteran sergeant?
