Zardu Layak, "choose powers"?

Under Zayak's rules, it allows him to choose powers from either Pyromancy or Daemonology.

Does this mean:

A.) He can choose whichever power he wants from the lists?

Or

B.) He must roll as normal on either of the disciplines?

I mean, Lorgar explicitly states that he can choose whichever powers he wants when transfigured, yet Layak's rules aren't worded so that he must roll on either discipline as normal.

Thoughts?

If you're taking powers from Pyro or Daemo, you can choose. Otherwise, roll.

So you're saying he can use any of the normal charts, but if he uses Pyro or daemon he can just pick?

Yes.

If the wording is "[...] allows him to choose from Either Pyromancy or Daemonology [...]" vs "[...] He MUST choose from [...]" then he can choose other psychic Disciplines and roll on them.

Otherwise, he's stuck with those two trees in particular.

"Zardu Layak may select powers from the Pyromancy or Malefic Daemonology disciplines"

That's the quote.

It's a permissive ruleset, and like the Librarian entry, tells you exactly what disciplines you may now use; in the case of the Librarian on page 17 of the LACAL, any from the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook, but including the wording on page 160 of Book 5; Tempest, you may not take Malefic unless you are either a Word Bearers Librarian or are Lorgar Transfigured or otherwise explicitly list Malefic), and in the case of Zardu Layak, Pyromancy or Malefic are your only options.

Slipstreams in wrong in this regard, but he is correct in that you may choose which powers you want.

The only other mention of selecting powers comes from Lorgar Transfigured himself; (Erratic Psychic Power refers to rolling). Everywhere else, the rules talk about generating psychic powers, which is rolling against a table. Of course, you could argue that without the qualifier, you select them in the normal way (i.e rolling), but I'm inclined to believe other wise.

Hmm

So then a largely daemon list with Zardu can be pretty good because he can auto choose cursed ground and summon heralds with a grimoire. Hell even taking the Sacrifice as a final F U to convert Zardu into a greater daemon would be funny.
