GrandMagnus
I am so awed by these sons of horus, so smooth, deep shadows, beutiful sea green and great character. I imagine you use an airbrush? Because if that is done the old fashioned way Im gonna break my brushes :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309680-30k-wolves-of-cthonia/page/2/#findComment-4109226 Share on other sites
Chickenleg
Hey! @Bloodbath: @Grandmagnus: I only use an airbrush for the rough basecoat to save time, the actual paintjob is the old fashioned way but please don't do it! Joe
Holy, those are beautiful. Is that plume from one of the Eldar models? I'll have to give that mix a try once my paints have turned up from Forgeworld. Thank you! noigrim
Hello all, Welcome to my new Horus Heresy project, the Sons of Horus. The ways of the Luna Wolves are forgotten while the legion embraces the old gang traditions of Cthonia. Brother Heinrich
Seriously my favorite Sons of Horus ever. The green you've achieved is magnificent. m_r_parker
I literally cannot "like" this enough - as someone who has a large number of Sons sitting waiting a decent paint scheme, this is truly inspirational. That darker shade of green is spot-on, to the point where I was sure it was photo-shopped when I first looked at it. It matches the ForgeWorld artwork so perfectly it makes me want to try this, especially if it's as simple as a mix of the two new ForgeWorld airbrush paints. I would love to see a more detailed guide on how you've been doing this, a step-by-step if you will. After you've applied the base coat throgh an airbrush, how did you follow it on? Did you use any washes, or go straight to highlighting. That freehand work is truly mindboggling - so subtle you could miss it, but captures the spirit of the model perfectly. Chickenleg
Thanks for the comments! As for the technique, I take a good amount of the basecoat color then add white next to it, slowly mixing them together to get all gradients. The same is done for the shadows with black. I'm using a wet palette for this and the painting is very organic, working light and shadow at the same time. There are no washes involved except for the metallics I hope this helps. One more finished. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w194/darkman1111/sohbolter55.jpg C&C welcome Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309680-30k-wolves-of-cthonia/page/2/#findComment-4126570 Share on other sites
SMcaptainAurelius
He's awesome. They all are! Question: one of your plumes is from a Justaerin and the other one is a chaos head so where next for plumes? There is a fairly cheeky one in the chaos warriors box, the classic ork one. Any other ideas? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/309680-30k-wolves-of-cthonia/page/2/#findComment-4131402 Share on other sites
Chickenleg
Thanks! The second one is a SM tactical head with a Space Wolves top knot. The chaos warriors one is too small, Space Wolves have good topknots. Ork Nobz and Fantasy Savage Orcs have them too. Chaos marines? Hope this helps.
