Winds Of Fury
Hello Everybody! I am currently planning a new project. A unit of Honour Guards for my Imperial Fists. The squad is going to be 8-10 man strong, built from the Vanguard Veteran miniatures as a base and converting using bits from other sets. The unit is going to be equipped as following: A Standard bearer with Power Sword, A chapter Champion with Thunder Hammer, 2 Relic Blade, 2 Power Axe, 2-4 Power Sword. (Want variety, not functionality) I got most ideas and planning done already but need help with the following: I want my Chapter Champion too have a two-handed pose with the Thunder Hammer. I also what one of the Veterans to be two-hand wielding a Relic Blade. What bits are good for that? I was looking in to some arm bits from the Grey Knight Strike Squad, but that has a Storm Bolter attached to it.So, suggestions on bits ant techniques to use for two handed poses? Lucien Eilam
There's a two-handed thunder hammer on the Death Company sprue. Just trim a couple of blood drops and it's good to go. There's a two-handed sword on the Sanguinary Guard. Needs a bit more work than the above to de-Blood Angel it. The Forge World Emperor's Children Palatine Blades have a couple of two-handed swords. Probably not too suitable for Fists though. There are a few other options in the Forge World range: the Legion Champion, for example. A bit of creative posing with the current plastic relic blade from the new Veterans and an open left hand (Grey Knights, Sanguinary Guard, new Devastators, etc.) can create a credible "switching to two-handed" pose. e.g.: http://cdn.lightbringers-space-marines.net/wip/plastic-vanguard.jpg Options that are now hard/expensive to get hold of: The old metal/resin Vanguard Veteran Sergeant had a two-handed relic blade. e.g.: http://cdn.lightbringers-space-marines.net/wip/metal-vanguard.jpg The 2008 Games Day miniature had a two-handed thunder hammer. Winds Of Fury
How didn't I know of that hammer? :OThat was perfect! Only having to remove the Blood Angel dirt.I like the Relic Blade convertion you posted. Is it done with the regluar "Boltgun" arms? Stercus
Good arms to use are the ones from the vehicle upgrade sprue. You just have to trim the storm bolter handles off and you have two arms that come in across the body which are easy enough to convert into a two handed weapon grip. Lucien Eilam
I like the Relic Blade convertion you posted. Is it done with the regluar "Boltgun" arms? I couldn't tell you for sure, I'm afraid. Probably some combination of the Tactical/Sternguard/Vanguard kits. Pretty sure the right arm was at least, that's a standard bolter pose. The left arm is farther across the body than most bolter arms though. My bitz box has stuff from pretty much every plastic power armour kit ever released, so they could have come from just about anywhere. The new Assault Squad sprue has a good selection of arms that cross the torso, if you get stuck. sockwithaticket
Grey Knight arms are still a good option, The storm bolter can be cut off and the arm tidied up easily enough with due care and attention. If yoo're not satisfied with your clean up job/not confident enough to do it, stick a tilt shield over the affected area and it looks like a buckler. I really need to do some bits-shopping soon.
