can I attach a siege breaker to a thud gun battery?

Might want to recheck those rules. Heavy Weapon Shooting attacks of infantry squads. Now, here's the sitch. What Unit type are Rapiers? They have both infantry and artillery. Now, going by what 7th edition codices use as their example, in this instance Thunderfire Cannons, they are all artillery. As are Vaul's Wrath Support Batteries for Eldar. And Mek Gunz for Orks. I cannot think of any others for 7th off the top of my head, but it's clear that while you can attach (nothing prevents IC's from joining artillery, explicitly explained in the rulebook), he wouldn't give you Tank Hunter.

Sorry for the necromancy, but I'd rather reawaken this thread than start a new one, since it is directly linked. If the moderators think it is best to still open a new one, then so be it.

In the 7th ed rulebook, the tank hunters rule states that it is conferable to the rest of the unit. But the Siege Breaker section states that "tank hunter is applied to his attacks": is the precise wording the reason that units instead of infantry don't gain tank hunter because of him ?

Read a bit more of the Siege Breaker entry.

It also states "And any Heavy Weapons in a Squad he's attached to". So, since its pretty specific how he confers the rule, I'd go with that :p

And since Quad Mortars are Heavy Weapons....

However, the only reason you dont really see this interaction between SB and QM is because of Shatter Shells having Sunder.

Which is essentially a non-conferrable Tank Hunters.

I was actually thinking of giving a Siege Breaker a Jetbike and sticking him in a unit of Skyhunters with Meltas... But as you say it seems rather specific, so no tank hunting jetbikes :(

Er...Jetbikes have heavy weapons so...yes, theyd get tank hunters with a SB Slapped to them. So you'd have Tank Hunting Multi-Meltas if you were so inclined.

Doesnt affect melta bombs though which is what I think you were getting at :p

Same way that Siege Tyrant Missile Launchers get Tank Hunters with a SB Slapped on.

Nope, Heavy Weapons of any infantry unit :(

It's a bummer ain't it :P I'd have been able to build myself a pretty cool character from that...

Oh well :P

Rapiers aren't infantry, so they wouldn't benefit regardless in case someone wanted to run tank hunting laser destroyers.

Ah, but the siege breaker states that it influences units of the infantry type, and rapiers only say they have infantry and artillery, hence the confusion...

But yes, you're right :P it's just a bit ambiguous the way it is written.
