The Court Brothers Inquisitorial Detachment

Recommended Posts

I'm starting a small Inquisitorial detachment to support my Black Templars Crusade. The fluff is going to say that the inquisitors are from different ordos, but are united by blood, all brothers. At the moment it's only going to be two inquisitors (one melee and one ranged) and a ranged unit comprising of 3 plasma cannon servitors and two jokaero weaponsmiths.

Tertius Court is an Ordo Xenos inquisitor, armed with a power sword, needle pistol, and rad and psychotroke grenades. He's based on an old Mordheim witch hunter model. I'd painted this model years ago, intending to use it on a diorama of a witch burnt at the stake that I never got around to doing. I think he's just perfect as an inquisitor. It took a while to strip the paint from him, but then I forgot to take a picture of him just undercoated, so you can see a sneak glimpse of the colour scheme in going for - purple and gold.

Quartus Court is an Ordo Malleus inquisitor, armed with a hellrifle and incinerator. He's based on a warhammer empire engineer, with a dwarf gyrocopter pilot helmet and irondrake pistol arm.

The 3 plasma cannon servitors are all cobbled together from different pieces. The orb servitor is made from a small bouncy ball with lots of random bits glued all over.

The droid servitor is made from the space marine tank sprue, a skeleton head, arm from Grimm Burlocksson, and bits from a drop pod.

The ogryn servitor is made from a warhammer ogre and ork nob buzz saw. The head is from the avatars of war dwarf berserkers kit, meant for a banner pole I just loved the idea of having the tongue lolling out to one side next to a cable.

My two jokaeros are fairly standard models - one's the games workshop official model and the second is from reaper miniatures. I've modeled the second, which comes holding onto a pole, to look like it's swinging from a fence/wall support strut.

I've started painting, so more pictures will follow in due course.

I've got a battle on Friday night and am looking to run my inquisition detachment with my Crusade. If I take an inquisitor with the liber heresius and deploy him with the emperor's champion, and a crusader squad in their dedicated land raider crusader, can I then use the scout move that the liber grants to scout up the land raider with everyone inside?

Very original and imaginative warband you're constructing there -- looking forward to seeing them painted.

I think the inquisitor needs to be deployed with the crusader squad inside their land raider in order for them to scout. But I'd have to double check the codex. I will try to do that later today.

I've finished the first plasma cannon servitor - the floating orb. I'm rather pleased with this; I wasn't sure how to paint the orb originally, but then a friend suggested I try to make it look like marble. Purple is the theme color for my detachment so purple marble was what I went for - and I think it looks awesome! It's not just the marbling though, I just love the crazy futuristic contraption idea of it all. What do you guys think?

I think the xenos inquisitor may work better as the ranged one as he would be with the xenos. ;)

Some good ideas there mate so far, must admit though, I'm not a fan of the bouncy ball of doom... Kinda reminds me about dungeons and dragons. :P

Very cool and unique servitor options! I had my doubts about the bouncy ball, but seeing it done I like it! Although I did perceive it to be like one of those electric orb balls that when you put your finger on it, all the strands of electricity go to your finger, then I read the marble statement and got slightly disheartened :P but still really like it :D

Can't wait to see the rest done up, they match my Sororitas paint scheme too ^_*

Introducing Inquisitor Secundus Court, joining his younger brothers Tertius and Quartus. Secundus will be run as a counts-as Coteaz, hence the large hammer and the animal companion.

He's made from various sources - space wolf legs, back torso and head, khorne bezerker front torso, dwarf hammerers arms and hammer, ravenwing bolt pistol, and ad mech back pack.

When modeling him I was trying to think of what I could use to represent Coteaz's psyber-eagle, but couldn't come up with anything from my bits box. However, I then remembered a very old boar from a savage orc model I had as a kid. I think this gives a really nice element to Secundus' character - gruff and determined. And the boar nice and significant for me - it's the sigil of the school I work at. As you can see, I'm in the process of stripping the old paint, which is going very slowly as it was very thick coats! (I was not a good painter when I was 12!) I don't think I'm going to be able to get it all off, but hopefully I can scrape off enough to recover some of the texture. The boar had lost its tail, so I'll need to do a bit of repairing there anyway.

I've also made a contingent of 4 daemonhosts. I know they are not especially effective in the game owing to their random nature, but they just fit my idea of the inquisition - using the powers of the enemy against themselves. Though if anyone has some good ideas on how to get good use from daemonhosts, please share! In the meantime, please meet 'The Staked'.

The base models of these 4 are the zombies pulling the vampire counts corpse cart, 1 has got the head from the free WD sigmarine, another uses a severed orc head from a dwarf kit. I've put bits of guitar wire or twisted kitchen roll to show the restraints that are used to confine them when not needed. I quite like the chaotic nature of these models and hopefully they'll make quite a fun unit to play with. I'm currently thinking of running them all together with a ministorum priest as an escort for their lost souls. I've made two priest models, but again they are currently soaking in dettol to try and remove some of the old thick paint job. Hopefully I'll be able to share some pictures of them before too long. I should also do some painting, because I haven't made any more progress on Tertius, Quartus, or the plasma cannon servitors than my last post!

Whilst I'm very slow at painting, I do enjoy a quick bit of modelling.

With the plasma cannon servitors done, I'm looking at some multi melta ones now, and want to keep the same sort of vibe going with the models - not the gw human with a melta arm and pipes. So this is my latest offering - a monowheel servitor. It's mainly the rear half of the dwarf gyrocopter, upside down, with a wooden bead as the wheel, a mechanicus head and gun shield, and obviously a multi melta.

What do you guys think?

Cobbled together another multi-melta servitor. It's not amazingly adventurous, but has a bit of character. Body and upper legs are from the free white dwarf sigmarine model. It's right leg is from a terminator (wanted to change its height a bit) and its left peg-leg is from the dwarf gyrocopter. Head is from the khorne berserkers kit.

Fantastic conversions. Getting a real BB-88 vibe from the monowheel multimelta servitor! Keep it up!

Love how the lack of easily obtainable official models leads INQ players to do so much creative converting. It's the best reason to collect an INQ force.

Anvil industry have released a new werewolf model with choice of parts to make it either fantasy or sci-fi; it looks seriously cool so I bought 2. I've changed a hand on each of them using bits from my bits box to make them a bit more individual. Not sure whether to use them as Arco-flagellants or deathcult assassins, but either way, the Court brothers have gained some interesting new recruits.

I finished doing a bit of painting tonight for one of my fantasy armies, and got thinking about psykers for my inquisition detachment. I have one modeled already, but ideally want 1 in each squad, so need so other models. I want my psykers to look odd and outside of society, so I started fiddling with a few things in my bits box. I quite like this 'wild' man.
