An issue with BL

Recommended Posts

To be fair, from time to time I like reading a Beer & Pretzels novel, just a wall of bolter-porn and shattered ceramite. It's a galaxy at war, after all, and that's what drew me into the hobby in the first place.

But I'm only going to pay as much for a book as i think it's worth. If it looks overpriced for it's content, I'll step away and wait for a paperpack version. Votin' with my dolla' bills, y'all.

I guess my main issue with BL is audiobooks. I can't hear worth a damn, so I have to wait for the Transcripts Novels. They are pretty good to read, but I have to wait for-freakin-ever. Years, sometimes. That's really censored.gif ing annoying.

Release the transcripts more frequently, please. There's enough material.

Quoted for fact. Whilst my hearing isn't that bad, I'd be far more inclined to buy more Black Library stuff if it was in written format.

I've always preferred written over audio, even when my hearing was 20/20 anyway...

I only read the HH series, and a few years ago it was an amazing adventure. Now, i have no idea what is going on. We get more limited edition novellas per year then actual novels, and rehashed anthologies are all too common. It is almost halfway through the year and we have yet to get a full length novel. I fear the HH series will take another 10 years to complete, and that some of the best authors will just drop out from it.

Heh. I have stopped buying anything from BL that isn't ADB.

That guy sucks.

Maybe you can answer this. But why is BL like, dead? Barely churning anything out, and most of what is getting tossed out there is weird shorts or 1-page stories that TBH aren't exactly the greatest of items? I mean, compared to what, 3-4 years ago, when you had SMB going strong, HH going strong, IG going strong, independent chapters novels going strong, etc etc. What happened?

We have one now though!

I don't mind if it does: I've said that I would prefer they didn't rush it and I mean that. I'd love to devour it all tomorrow like everyone else, but I'd rather equally have a sort of legacy and something to return to, in a fully fledged out setting, than having it conclude with there being lots more bits that would've added to my overall enjoyment of the story.

I'm guessing I'm one of the few who doesn't necessarily feel these frustrations as I tend not to buy either eBooks or audios: and there's still a good amount of releases that capture my interest on a regular basis. I'd never turn down more Heresy naturally, but I know the authors are busy and it'll be worth it when it comes.

wow....GW going down the :cusster, and fast.

More victim blaming? Isnt it enough they shovel poor rules down our throats?

From what I saw, there is even talk that BL is no longer profitable, and its only in the last few years that that took place.

This is a corporate :cuss up, and as I work in a corporation, I know one when I see one. :p

I love to read BL books.  I have always enjoyed the Bolter porn, and I have enjoyed reading even the "bad" books.

I want to buy more BL books.  I have money.  I check the website quite often, looking for something to buy.  I am a dedicated and loyal BL consumer, and I am dying to consume.

But BL isn't giving me anything to buy.

Oh, i by no means want the story rushed. Im perfectly fine with the novels they are producing, BUT the rate of production is very bad. That and the fact they keep releasing novellas that cost the same as a novel is just annoying now.

They should be releasing 3-4 books a year imo. But at this rate of 1 a year, the series will be dragged out way too long.

Got the Dark Eldar omnibus? Rob Sanders's non-astartes novels? The more recent IG novels, of which there's at least ten? Daemonworld? Lord of the Night? Chris Wraight's Flesh? Cadian Blood? Titanicus? The Necromunda novels?

All less likely choices on a Space Marine board, but the consensus is  they're all at least readable.

Also, have you tried a WHFB novel?

And BTW, is it just me or is BL's search function dreadful? Maybe that's part of the reason you're not finding stuff to consume.

Many of us don't read 40k or fantasy, because we don't play 40k or fantasy. We play 30k. We're only interested in the Heresy. Why would I spend money on something that holds zero interest to me?

That's like telling someone "I heard you drink pop, but only Dr. Pepper. You should drink Pepsi."

Why? I don't like Pepsi.

Are you speaking for Gripharius? I was responding to his post, and his post only.
