A little help with a Red Grey Knight

Recommended Posts

I've decided to try a red colour scheme for my GK army. So far I am happy how it has turned out on my test model.

I'm a bit stumped on what colour to paint the weapons. The Halberd haft will be the same colour as the weapon casing and the blade will be a different colour to those. I did think of blue for the haft and weapon casing, but I'm not sure if those two colours will work with the red. Black may be a safer bet. Anywho, I'm open to comments and criticism.

Thanks

I was thinking of some type of metallic blue, possibly quartered with white (if my skills are up to it). The bit between the blade and the haft will be gold, like the skulls and text on the armour.

If I go with black casing, I'm thinking of purple purity seals.

Cheers for the replies!!

Ok, a bit more progress. Not sold on the purple purity seals, but for me it's probably that or green.

I've done a practice run on two different power weapon colours. The red might tie in better than the blue.

They do look better from a distance, rather than up close like the pic.

Thoughts?

Id go green on the purity seals tbh - will look more natural and vlblend in to the model more.

In other news, the swords... I'm not overly sold on either to be honest - I don't think I like the cracked patternation on it... Have you considered metal with a blue wash?

Lsstly - your red looks a,little... Flat? (or is that just my phone?) there doesn't seem to beva loylt of definition between plates and overall seems too bright... What 'recipe' do you use? Have you considered sponge weathering?

Thanks for the comments man. I am still unsure what style to do the sword in. I'm not sure metal with a blue wash will look ok on a red model but  I will try it to see.

The red is Army Painters Dragon Red primer, followed by a Baal Red wash. The model does look better in real life to be honest, so I'm probably going to stick with the red how it is.

Cheers

or perhaps metal with a green wash?

as far as red goes I tend to follow the following basic recipe...

1:1:1 red/brown/black

then layer on the base colour red over a couple of thin coats

then go back with the first layer watered down and glazed a little with medium to redifine the edges and deep recesses

then thick line the edge of plates with 1:1 red:orange

then edge highlight with orange

then edge highlight with 1:1 orange:ochre

then edge highlight with ochre

lastly a red glaze (made with your base coliur red, medium and a little water) finished with a last final touch highlight of ochre on the real high points....
