GrandMagnus
Well I was suggesting doing the Officers & Commanders, etc. in black armour as is normal Legionnaire for Raven Guard, but have the armour covered in the tribal artwork so it's not really just jet black armour. It would tie them to the Legion at large with the base color, tie them to your company with the tribal, and make the armour look more personalized... like tribe specific or whatnot. Perhaps use different coloring for the tribal patterns to denote their rank or poisition, ie. blue for Librarian, perhaps red for Apothecary (as white seems to be the norm), gold or some such for Praetor. You've got an awesome base idea with these guys that you could definitely explore. I like this idea, but just to throw another suggestion in: The amount, style, and complexity of the markings could also indicate just how experienced the Astartes in question is. For example: A veteran officer, fought in the unification wars, etc, seen just about everything the Galaxy has to throw at him, would have more complex markings than, say, a newly promoted sergeant (in theory), who has only been serving for a couple of decades. The markings should tell a story as well as mark that particular Astartes as an officer, veteran, etc. This could mean that some of the more senior officers would have some similar markings, but also more variation, as they may choose to place the markings on different parts of their armour, emphasise some markings over others, etc, or some veterans may have missed a certain engagement/campaign, but fought in others. Lovely idea! The more intrigate, the higher the rank. I can easily see the chapters commander having his entire suit covered in tribal markings dating back to the unification era. I could take a look at the various FW honours, such as the raptor imperialis and the lightning bolts, and rework thme into a more tribal pattern. EDIT: Just got an idea while working on an army list! Maybe each squad should have their own particular tribal symbol displayed on their tribal markings, like a moon for one squad, a sword for another, etc. As a way to distinguish the squads. BTW, I was reading up on the Raven Guard fluff, is the lack of pigment in the skin a common trait in all sons of corax or did it only appear after they were reunited with their primarch? Either way most of the marines will be wearing helmets Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310322-xixth-legion-test-model/page/2/#findComment-4108352 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
I think the lack of pigment was around pre primarch, it's a trait of the gene seed so would be apparent in the XIX legion. I think it's where the name Pale Nomads appeared. The ideas for the officers are good, another thing to consider would be maybe doing recon marines oe the Mor Deythan in black or possible camouflage. Interesting. About recon units, Im not sure if going for full black armour is the right way to go, although it could be. Camouflage might be better, depending on the terrain I make for the bases (still undecided). Daemon2027
Yeah camo may be better. Or if you do dust bases keep them as bone. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310322-xixth-legion-test-model/page/2/#findComment-4108925 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
The problem with dust bases is I need a good contrast colour for the bone. Im thinking a kind of ashen wasteland would do. Reddish-grey sand and some debri. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/310322-xixth-legion-test-model/page/2/#findComment-4108932 Share on other sites
DimDim
I really like this scheme, and it makes me want to do up a ravenguard marine with the white/bone assault arms. Your scheme gets a 1up from me!
