Skeletal/Ribcage Torso

Recommended Posts

Hi folks - fairly specific question here, hoping someone may be able to help:

I'm returning to the game after about 10 years, so I'm pretty out of touch with what's available in the various SM/CSM kits as far as bits are concerned. What I'm specifically after is a power armoured torso with a skeletal/ribcage shape or depiction to it. My interest in the hobby is almost 100% based in the lore, but I'm now getting keen to dabble with some modeling... and in order to create marines from the DIY Chapter I'm working on, I'd need to source a bunch of these.

I know this one specifcally isn't a multi-part model, but what I'm essentially looking for is this (not mine, just grabbed the first from Google image search):

Am I doomed? Or is there a plastic kit out there that will allow me to harvest such a thing en masse? :)

There's a torso on the Possessed sprue that's quite close to a ribcage. The sternum looks more like a spine, but you might be able to do something with it.

Otherwise there are a couple of Damned Legionnaires that would work, and the Chaplain with power fist model.

Hmm. There is no plastic kit that will let you do that you want without conversion. However, there are options:

- the above model is very cheap on eBay, you could harvest some torso from those

-the legion of the damned finecast models are rather skeletal and their arms etc are compatie with the rest of the space marines. However, they are pricey and not plastic

- a third option might be to grab a box of skeleton warriors for warhammer fantasy and play around with the bits therein and see what you get

Hope that helps

Thank you folks! Lots of ideas here. I've realised that, given that I'm not modelling a whole army here, I really only need a few of these, and given the nature of the guys I'm doing I'm quite happy for them to not be identical torsos.

- I see what you mean about the possessed Lucian Eilam - thanks, I'll use this.

- I think I'll use the LotD idea Toomanyprojects - I'm trying to avoid other skeletal markings on the armour, but if some of these are mutli-part and I can just get the ribcage I should be golden. Will look into this further, thanks :)

- The "casting" idea makes the most sense Grotsmasha, agreed - only issue is I'm not at all confident with even basic modelling yet (given that it's been a decade and I didn't do much back then either), let alone playing with GS. I'll keep this in my pocket if I decide to go further with it all though :)

You've all been very helpful, thanks chaps!

Push casting some torso fronts would probably be the best way of getting them in bulk. Using something like sergeant centurius or the powerfist chaplain as a base? Alternatively you could appeal to the likes of chapterhouse, or someone on shapeways who makes shoulder pads to knock up some torso front CAD files.
